Garden Grove

Home of the Argonauts
I have waited years for this book to come out. I had jealously seen the other neighboring cities in this series. I still live in Garden Grove not very far from all the photo's in this great book. I grew up not far from Main St. and still remember the old sites. I moved to GG in the early 60s and fondly remember Zlakets Mkt and the old Gem Theater. Residents of Garden Grove will see how much our city has changed. Long gone are the Orange Groves that once covered our city. This book covers the founding of our city and the once thriving farming community. Old GGHS alumni will feel a sense of pride and a certain affinity with some of the old school photo's. I was also pleased to see an old family friend on pg. 96. Harold Davis a Postman was a very big part of my families life. This is a must read book for all Garden Grove residents and those who have moved away.

Garden Grove (CA) (Images of America)
I grew up in Garden Grove from the fifties to the late seventies and never realized how long ago Garden Grove started, and what kind of farming was there. There was a photo of Garden Grove Blvd looking east towards Euclid and when I saw the old two story buildings that were torn down, it brought back memories long forgotten. It's a great book for me to browse before a nap or hitting the sack for the night because my it stimulates my subconscious to remember those times in my sleep. I just wish that I could find a photo of the Greek restaurant that was on Chapman, just east of Brookhurst. It was called The Pink Spot, and it was a white building with big plastic bubbles embedded on the outside walls. The sauce on their hamburgers was the best.
