I love these books by Elizabeth Verdick and purchased this book ...
I love these books by Elizabeth Verdick and purchased this book during cold and flu season...I teach preschool and we were having severe issues with nose picking! We read it to talk about using tissues instead of our fingers. While we still have nose pickers (it's preschool, what can I say), we've noticed a big improvement on the children at least some of the time getting up to get tissues on their own - then getting tons of praise for it! Nice, easy wording. The only thing I didn't necessarily agree with were the tips at the end of the book about not calling a child out on nose picking - sometimes modeling is just not enough. I've been teaching preschool for 7 years now, and while we aren't embarrassing the children by any means, if I see one picking their nose, I'm going to tell them to get a tissue. But they're tips, so they're optional, so to each their own!

Helpful for Handling Yucky Habit
An uncomfortable subject handled with humor and tact! It's so embarrassing when your child picks his or her nose in public, especially if they have the habit of licking their finger afterwards! So gross! It's enough to make one's stomach turn! It seems that many children (who don't have allergies, etc) pick up this habit from each other in school and imitate each other, and then keep doing it because parents freak out and they think it's a funny game. I made the mistake of flipping out the first time I saw my little girl do it and now she thinks it's fun to gross me out. Thanks to the advice in the back of the book I know I've been handling the situation all wrong! After only reading this once, my daughter increased her nose picking. I guess as a way of telling us that some book isn't going to convince her to stop. But we've read it a few times now and she is stopping little by little. When we got to the page saying that germs make you sick, I stopped and explained to her that germs live inside her nose on her boogers. I told her that the germs will get on her hands if she puts her fingers in her nose and make her sick. She did not like that idea one bit! Later, I also reminded her of the time she made her nose bleed from picking. She was very distressed and asked for a tissue, saying she didn't want her nose to bleed. This book is helping us both a lot!

This works to break the habit!
My 2 year old had a bad habit of picking his nose. I tried everything I could think of to discourage him for a good 6 months before I bought this book. Now he’s 3 and almost never picks, when he does I repeat the mantra from the book, “noses are not for picking!” and he stops. I liked this so much that I bought other books in the series

Wonderful Board Books - Clear Messages
This series is great for younger kids or kids that may need some reminders about basic conduct/manners/hygiene. The message is clear and direct, the colors are great, and the words are repetitive enough that they make for wonderful early readers as well. Our autistic son needs these reminders to help him navigate life in public school and he loves these books. These are board books, so they hold up well to the love they will surely receive.

Helpful
Within a few days of starting school, my 2 year old befriended a kid who is a constant nose picker, and subsequently my son started picking his nose. Super gross. So, I bought this book. It's been really great for reinforcing with him that picking one's nose is dirty and germy, and that he needs to get a tissue when he has boogers. Now, although he hasn't completely stopped picking his nose, at least he's good about asking for a tissue... or going to get a tissue himself.

This book is exactly as described and exceeded my expectations. It’s well-made, easy to use, and arrived quickly. I’ve been reading it regularly to my grandchildren and it’s made a noticeable difference. Great quality for the price—would definitely recommend!
