ELMO MX-P Document Camera, White

Our old ELMO broke down in court on a Friday. By Monday we were up and working just fine. Great resolution and a great little machine in general.

Editing review after having it for quite a while. We threw out the software and used other applications and it works fine. Wife decided to keep and it suits her.Old reviewI'm sure it works, but very, very unintuitive, documentation next to worthless (in English, other languages may be better), and doesn't follow normal windows standards. Can't even alt tab between windows, change where files are saved, or even bring up the menu reliably. Or you can. Who knows?Wife is currently watching YouTube videos for help before we box up and send back. There are so many different versions of this, and so many versions of software, that I fear she'll learn the wrong one.Part of the installation was in Chinese as well, although to be fair, it was an error message. Windows defender blocked it during part of the install.When plugged in, it started screeching horribly due to feedback. Are there microphone or speaker controls? I couldn't find any and eventually turned off the speakers so I could experiment.Picture quality ok, slightly worse that holding my cell phone over the document and recording it.Highly regret this purchase. There has to be a better and more affordable option. We went expensive because we thought we'd be getting the premiere product.

I use this for PIP depositions and generally it's good with one large caveat. Zooming in more than a few clicks results in the output video becoming unstable.I'm running the HDMI output into a 4-way HDMI splitter which feeds 2 or 3 identical 21" HDMI monitors and an Atomos Ninja Flame HDMI recorder simultaneously. It's a serious issue to have to explain to an attorney while on the record (!) that he has to zoom back out and move the camera head down and refocus for it to work. Something Elmo is doing during zooming changes the HDMI signal and makes it unstable. It works 100% when no zooming happens. It works 100% if they zoom just a couple of clicks and stay there. Zoom 4 or 5 clicks, and video becomes unstable and image seen on monitors and my recorder blinks on and off until zoomed back out. This makes no sense why a working HDMI signal would become intermittent simply because of the scene content changing. The signal itself has to be changing somehow. This is a deal-breaker for my long-term use.On my next use, I will try going directly into the Atomos and using its output for the splitter. Hopefully the Atomos will act as a buffer to stabilize the HDMI signal during zooms, but if that doesn't fix the issue, it's use with me will be terminated.When it's not glitching, the image quality is good, and from the few times the AF button has been used, it seems that the AF is fast and accurate. The LED light isn't strong enough to eliminate shadows of the "arm" caused from strong overhead room lights above the Elmo shining down on it. You can't really see much difference with the LED on or off in average room lighting. A stronger LED such as those square ones used in super bright flashlights might make more sense than whatever they use currently.I like how small it folds down for transport, but the arm system has a bit of bounce to it once extended, so that small shakes of the table are visible in the video for a second or two, which is longer than the actual table shake lasts, so it's the arm bouncing making the video shake last longer than the table shake. Not a horrible thing, but noticeable.
