BANYAN TREE -ALA MARAM- (FICUS BENGHALENSIS) SEEDS A banyan, also spelled "banian", is a fig that begins its life as an epiphyte, i. e. a plant that grows on another plant, when its seed germinates in a crack or crevice of a host tree. HOW TO GROW:Surface sow seeds and do not cover with growing medium. The medium should be moist, and we would recommend that you cover the seed container with a piece of glass or clear plastic. Temperature should be kept at approximately 70 degrees F. Seeds should receive diffused light. Once some of the seeds have germinated air should be admitted gradually to prevent damping off.Germination can take several months.
