The Darling Buds of May Complete ITV TV Series DVD Collection [ 6 Discs] Boxset: Series 1, 2 and 3 + Extras

I didn't see this series when it was on in the early 90's. Too twee for me when I was in my 20's, and to be honest, that is a criticism that can be levelled at these programmes: it is always sunny, unless it is Christmas and then it is cold. Everyone is happy and over fed and drinks too much but it's ok because they work hard so even though Ma is as big as the side of a house, she will never die of type 2 diabetes.But, despite the twee this is still wonderful, as long as you accept it for what it is. The scripts are tight and engaging, the sets are brilliant and the acting is superb, as long as you don't watch and listen when some of the kids are on screen for they are dreadful. And of course, rising above it all is the sublime gorgeousity of Catherine Zeta-Jones in all her predespoiledbytheYankDouglas glory. Oh yeah, David Jason isn't bad either.They tell me the books have a harder edge and this wouldn't surprise me: there are touches every now and then of Pop Larkin giving an anti-Socialst rant as he rails against paying taxes and the like, but again, you just have to ignore this and look at the lovely breakfasts they eat. We are offered a vision of 50's Britain in all its post war bucolic loveliness, geese and ducks, mills and ponds, beer and vicars and a bit of howsyourfather (even for the kids) with nobody getting chlamydia.What I really like about this though is its innocence. I am really getting sick of all the post-modern ironic, knowing, cynical unpleasant stuff that is on the box at the moment. This is classic, wonderful Sunday night rubbish.

I love the dvds as I am a big fan of darling buds of may. I have watched a couple of discs today and had no problem with the sound or picture resolution everything was perfect thank you amazon.

Firstly with regards to one review that on disc one some episodes were missing, 'The darling buds of may', well i don't know if its the same for all of these box sets, but on disc 1 you have 'the darling buds of may' and 'when the green woods laugh'. I selected the darling buds of may title to play, only for it to play when the green woods laugh!, hence the story jumping ahead with marriette and charlie already engaged, the same as another customer review . If you have this problem i recommend going to 'scene selection' and then 'the darling buds of may' is the first scene to select. This basically must be some sort of manufacturing fault, along with other disgruntaled reviews, though the discs seem to play fine for me. Hope this helps peeps! I have to say they don't make them like they used too. The programs that is. Puts a smile on your face! Perfec.

It only arrived this week, there are 6 dvds to watchI reserve my opinion!

Absolutely brilliant love the old version of Darling buds of May we watch it every night for the last year we recorded it last Christmas and it disappeared so I had to buy the dvd wouldn’t be without it

It's great to own the COMPLETE series on DVD, the transfer to disc is of high quality...plus it takes up the space of only half of one of the VHS box sets!If you enjoyed the series when it was first broadcast in the early 1990s then you'll love this set. All episodes are included in this set: Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 and BOTH Christmas specials. There is a special feature of commentary from both Philip Franks and Pam Ferris in the first series, which is a nice addition.This is the kind of series you can just sit back and enjoy. Timeless entertainment, and excellent acting and on screen chemistry from all the cast. David Jason and Pam Ferris are fantastic together and the first major role for Catherine Zeta Jones is good too. Highly recommended set!

We are using these dvd's for home entertainment and they are great.

Purchased this item for my wife as she was aware of the series having seen a few episodes while in the U.K.DVD set was received exactly the condition as described, in NTSC format.My wife has been watching the series a couple of episodes at a time and is enjoying it to no end. I can confirm that as I can hear her laughter in response to the program.

Vendor communicated right away on timing and as I understood it was Region 2 (I am in Canada). Darling Buds of May collection is so great to see again. As almost impossible to get a North American version at a decent price, I invested in a multin ntl DVD player to accommodate this and a few others I had collected over the year. Happy I did.

I am a devout fan of British comedy and own many of them on DVD and VHS. I am gradually replacing the ones on VHS with the DVD format as they become available and was very happy to be able to purchase "The Darling Buds of May" on DVD. I am a great fan of David Jason. (Loved him in "Open All Hours", which I also have). The beautiful Catherine Zeta Jones is also a pleasure to watch and Pam Ferris was marvelous as the mother of that large brood. The great thing about having my favorite shows on DVD is that I can watch them again and again whenever if need a good laugh. Thanks for providing the British shows and keep them coming. Well i bought the darling buds of may for my sister and her husdand. They are absoulutely crazy about it.They had seen some of the episodes before. There was something about the zone ,they needed zone 2 or 4 , but they figured it out and they are happy with it and so am i.

I purchased this set once years ago, for about $50. Recently I wanted to purchase another set for my daughter, as she loves the show as well, and was surprised that the availability had disappeared and disappointed that the price had gone sky high.
