A wonderful and surprising experience
I have played many Tomb Raider games in many consoles throught the years (PC, PS1, Wii) so I have been able to experience some great games, but none of those previous games comes close to the MASTERPIECE that this game is. About a year ago, I bought my PS4 and some games, including Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. I did not have my hopes too high because I have read some mixed reviews on this game, so when I started to play the game I was completely overwhelmed by how good it is. I am going to divide my review in parts so that I can explain each aspect in a much more detailed way. I want to clarify that the game has a multiplayer mode but I have not played it because I am not really fond of those. STORY/PLOT (No spoilers): The story is amazing; you get in it right from the start. The more you play the game, the more you sympathize with Lara. You do not start with your complete equipment right from the start, so you really feel like a survivor when you have to hunt and craft your weapons or upgrades. The story is long and it has some interesting plot-twists that players will love. GRAPHICS: The game looks incredible; the graphics are top-notch. Everything looks very good; I have seen some comparison videos of the PS3 and PS4 versions and you can clearly see that it has improved a lot. Lara Croft looks very real, throughout the game her clothes react to the way you play (i.e: if they shoot you, the blood will remain in her shirt). The other characters and the environments look very good as well. There were some missions in which it was raining and the water drops reflected the light from the thunders up above. GAMEPLAY: Now, this is one of the most important facts of a game. In this case, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has a great gameplay because it is easy to learn but difficult to master. The controls are very intuitive, but if you do not like them, you can always change them later in options. The game is very cleverly made because in almost all missions you can choose to sneak and attack enemies one by one or you can go against all of them head-on (but you have to be careful because ammo is not infinite and you have to be very wise regarding it). All in all, I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play a game with a great plot, graphics and gameplay and a high replay value. It is an amazing game that will remain in your mind long after you finish it.

Thrilling Game - Play How YOU Want
What else can I say about this game that others haven't? I actually played the Steam version of this game on my computer and forgotten I had gotten this as a 'stocking stuffer' for Xmas when it was on a deep sale, (really cheap). The graphics, motion capture, story - its all very engrossing and thrilling, making for a wonderful adventure I haven't seen or experienced since I played The Last of Us. It definitely features more of the gritty, harsh qualities of that aforementioned game, including the level of violence. Some of the death animations in this game are just... brutal and incredibly graphic. Anyway, back on topic: this is an excellent game. Its a game you hear about where you can play how you want. Want to be loud and go all out with a bang? You can do that. Want to be stealthy and kill all the enemies in the area with not ONE person being able to raise any kind of alarm? You can do that too. All in all, an awesome game that will bring you along on a heck of an adventure. I put in about 11 hours into the game or so, and definitely feel I got more than my money's worth for that. Tis' a shame I will have to wait till later this year to buy the sequel for PS4. This is one of those exclusivity titles that definitely suffers from being a console timed exclusive. I'm sure the developer still gets paid sure, but it must be a blow to your confidence when the sales are better for PC than XBone, when that version was released several months later. Unfortunately for Tomb Raider, it just doesn't have the base built in to draw in the numbers like it might've done on PS4, like what Uncharted is able to do.

Almost the perfect game
This game is a must own for ps4 owners. It is at the very top of the list of games to own this year. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition puts titles like Thief, Watchdogs, and CoD to shame. I was absolutely stunned by how lifelike and gorgeous Lara was and the level of detail in the environment. Good: - 25 hours of game play with 97% of collectibles found - Lara is drop dead gorgeous and looks like a real human being - The deep emotion displayed by lara makes you feel connected and you truly care what happens to her - The story line is complete with no plot holes and easy to understand - The foundation of the story is very sound. Extremely well planned out and executed. This could be one of the best stories in a video game. - Scenery and environment is incredible. The island is breathtaking. I kept stopping at every cliff to gaze out into the beautiful world of Yamatai. - A good array of weaponry and tools - Over 30 different weapon upgrades - 5 different outfits for Lara (I mostly stuck with aviatrix and commando) - Lots of extras to unlock and the comics you can actually read unlike kz shadow fall - Behind the scenes unlockable videos. This is what every game should have. I always like to watch the making of: after every game I complete. - Death cut scenes. I must have seen over twenty different ways Lara died like being impaled by a broken log, eaten alive by wolves, breaking her head on the rocks, shot in cold blood, stabbed...etc. Bad: - No map key. This made it very confusing in the first half of the game. You didn't know what was what on the map. - The ending. I didn't like how quickly it ended. They should've added another 20 min of game play and made you face off with the sun queen. The game was beat too easily on normal difficulty. - The ship crew. They tried to fit in every race they could. Black, native, Asian,British, Aryan, Scottish, Irish. It just looked goofy and seemed out of place.

Phenomenal Game in Adventure, but too short
Despite all the negative publicity about it being a scam because its the same game from a year ago and literally a PC port (since PS4's are really just a computer in a box, literally.) It did not affect me because I have never bought the game prior to this, as such I will let you guys know that even at $60 it still is not worth it. This game has a shorter story campaign than the Lost Souls. I was able to finish this game in 12 hours; however the story campaign was very fun and entertaining I kind of wished it was a bit longer. Right now I am trying to 100% complete the game and so far it has been fun jumping around and finding all collectibles. Before I bought this game, my perception of this video game would be exploring and solving puzzles a majority of the game. This game on the other hand is packed with action and requires you to be extremely responsive. Controls 8/10: You will frequently notice Laura get caught in a physics glitch where she is dropping in mid air and frozen in the same place, especially when you try to jump in areas that where originally intended not be jumped on. Also compared to other games like Assassins Creed, you will notice a lot of buildings that you could technically jump on but the game will not allow you. In addition to all of that, you will also see enemies jumping up large buildings with little effort; only to find out you cannot do the same. Combat 9/10 I never would expected combat to be so fluid in Tomb Raider, it could be because of 60 fps but the combat feels realistic. I also never expected to see so much combat. I'd say your fighting enemies about 60 or 70% of the time in this game. Enemies can be a hit or miss, but if you stand in the open, especially in the harder difficulty you are as good as dead within seconds. I would rate it a 10/10 but there are a lot of spots you can find where enemies specifically aim for you middle breastbone area. If you find a spot that blocks your breast bone, you can literally shoot in the open with complete invulnerability. TO combat this they throw dynamite which you have to dodge away or move into the open; it is certainly not as easy at it sounds but once you find a spot like this the combat becomes easy. Graphics 10/10 The particle effects in the environment are excellence. You can see smoke in a building, you can see ambers from a torch falling to the ground. When you zip line, you actually see smoke coming out of your axe due to heat. Tomb Raider is also one of the best games I have seen to accurately depict the Japanese art culture. You can clearly see how the PS4 has helped making Laura's skin look realistic by reflecting light, her clothes are in high resolution so you can see wounds and even skin where areas of her clothes ripped off. I have not experienced any clipping issues with her as well. She is the perfect example of how every model should be on a PS4, she is not overly sexualized or unrealistic. Story 8/10 The entire game is spent trying to get out of the island, some scenes are extremely predicable. You wouldn't expect to get off the island 3 or 4 hours into the game, so of course you know something is going to happen badly. This game also gives the perception that Laura is so bad *** that she can accomplish anything by herself, and anyone in her way is simply slowing her down. I don't think there was a time where someone went off on their own without Laura helping in some way. The story itself is enjoyable however, it doesn't let you know about the entire story until the very end. Your discoveries are what reflect your knowledge of the story in the game. The bottom line of this game is, it is a phenomenal game to experience but it only lasts at max of 30 hours if you did everything. The only advantage of buying it on a PS4 is the trophies attaching to your PSN account, otherwise it's not worth the extra $40 to simply buy it on the last generation or PC. IF you have never bought it before, then it's a bit easier to justify it.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, worth it or not?
Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is an updated version of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot with update graphics and controls. Many people were unhappy about the game releasing at full retail price of $60 since it is essentially a port of the original. Many who bought the original last year questioned if it was worth buying again on current-gen. I will attempt to answer that question. 2013's Tomb Raider is one my favorite games of all time. The story has a dark, gritty feel that was lacking in the original games. While the earlier games were fun-filled adventure tales, this is a story about survival. Lara ends up stranded on an uncharted island and must build herself up to survive against hostile human adversaries as well as the elements. The characters are extremely done. Camilla Luddington plays Lara Croft extremely well and makes Lara seem human in a way that the original games did not. The bulletproof Lara of the past is gone, and in her place is a Lara that is scared, gets hurt, and must learn from her mistakes in order to survive and save her friends. The remaining cast is mostly done very well, with one or two exceptions. The graphics in the last-gen version of the game were spectacular, and the current-gen are even better. The controls are update as well, with fun new ways to switch weapons, bring up the map, and light and stow your torch. Also, the prequel comic that came with a preorder of the original is included on the disk in digital form. For those who have yet to experience this game it is definitely worth full retail. For those who already own the game I suggest you wait until it drops in price to about $20-30.

8/10 GO BUY IT!
The game is phenomenal. Story: This is the reboot of the series, we are playing the origin of Lara Corft. (Don't wanna say what she and crew are trying to find cause it's pretty interesting. Gameplay: The shooting mechanics aren't terrible, but you need to get learn how to use the arrow properly. You can use guns, but I prefer to use bow and arrows since it's usually a one hit kill if you're able to shoot the enemies around the upper body. I think there are two bosses, but really aren't that hard. The first boss pretty much require constant shooting with guns, the other you have to learn it's pattern and actually find the weakness. Sadly, the enemies aren't that smart. There are three types of enemy: swords, gunners / arrow, and demolation. As the game progress, some enemies will be wearing armor. There are checkpoints where you can upgrade your guns and skills. Overall, gameplay is great. Overall: There is mutiplayer, but I haven't played since there isn't anyone on it at this time. But for a single player experience, it's a definite purchase. The biggest con to this, and it's not that bad, is the orgin story. For a reboot, there are plot holes that i think fans of the series would already know. For Example: Who is Lara Croft's Dad? Now of course you can search it up and know. But, to mention his name mutiple times and not give enough backstory for him in the game is a shame. Clearly, in the story something about Lara Croft father's is what made Lara insprie to to explore myths. For it's price currently, I think it's a steal. GO BUY IT!

Not the Lara I remember but I am starting to like the direction the devs are going
I thought about getting this when it came out on 360 (when I had that system) but decided not too. I saw gamplay of the game but i wasn't that interested. Fast forward 1 year. I finally decide to get a PS4 and I got this game too since it was $30. First time playing it I didn't understand the direction the story was going. I am a bit old school (born in 84) so I definitely remember Tomb Raider 1,2 and 3. I played TR 2 and 3 and loved them both to death but this new Tomb raider was a bit different for me. I bought the strategy guide and haven't been able to put this game down since. The story makes sense to me now. You get only 4 weapons but they get better as you progress though the game. Lara also gets better thoughout the game because she too can be upgraded. The Lara from the original PSX days (mid to late 90s) was older and more mature. This new lara is younger and less experienced (for now). I assume the developers wanted to start fresh from the beginning. It was something I needed to get used to but I love what they did. If you rushed through the game you can probably complete it in about 5 hours I guess. The graphics are gorgeous and the controls are smooth and easy to understand. Acting is good too. Sound effects are great. I honestly cannot think of anything negative about the game. Overall a great game.
