I sit at home and each night I read a story and then sing the hymn! Bravo! Music is a balm for the soul! The testimonies are faith builders! What a way to end a day and prepare for sleep?

I am so impressed! Robert J. Morgan cares so much for humanity that he, his wife, and staff, have compiled now three books of hymns and the stories of how they originated. Written in a conversational style, filled with marvelous and thrilling stories, the author has provided more music information to strengthen faith. Just reading the introduction will keep you wanting to learn more!Book 3 is just full of riveting stories - examining hymns past and present (they continue to be written of course!) Some hymns are familiar, all of them are impressive. Among my favorite hymns and stories is "In Christ Alone" written in 2001. Another very amazing story concerns Horatio G. Spafford and his family (It Is Well With My Soul") Be surprised! Well, actually, there are surprises on every page it seems!It doesn't matter if you can't sing or follow notes - reading the inspired words and the why and how writers and composers got their message across thru the ages is well worth your time. I both love and appreciate this book and tho I do not know the Morgans personally, they are kindred spirits - "Blest Be The Tie That Binds Our Hearts In Christian Love....."

This book "Then Sings My Soul" is so good to spend some quiet time with. The book contains some of the best songs ever written. Along with really good songs (words and notes,) the book is also filled with the stories behind the songs. Wonderful book to read and have in my personal library.

Book was in good shape. Covers a lot of hymns over a long time. Would get books one and two for song leaders.

Shipped and arrived on time which was important since this was a gift. Friend was so excited to receive it! Especially liked that the pages have “rough” edges… not a typical book but more of an antique/home bound feel.

Just as wonderful, inspiring, and uplifting as the first 2 Then Sings My Soul books. This wonderful series of books on old hymns and the stories behind them are like balm to a weary soul. This book would make a lovely gift for anyone, but especially for those going through a difficult time in their lives. I highly recommend this very fine publication.

This is a wonderful book for anybody interested in hymns, as I have been. The author's section on church music today is also good to read and think about. What a heritage we have in hymns, and I am so grateful to have such a book in my library.

An excellent and interesting book.

WOW! Truly brings makes one much more appreciative of the words and the authors who penned them when you know what truly brought the songs into reality! This book is a little gem, and should somehow be used in regular worship services (where hymns are still being sung), to let the congregation know that the God who was faithful in times of trials and testing is still the same God today! He is just as capable and faithful to His dear children now, as He was then!

My mother absolutely loved the first one... also got the second, though it took a lot longer to get. The stories about the songs, as well as the music included to play them has been helpful and inspirational, as well as really helpful to her. She has enjoyed it a great deal, and used it in her duties as Clerk Of Sessions, regularly. Would totally recommend.

'Then Sings My Soul' volume 3 is a collection of the best loved hymns and the stories that inspired them. Great for a church library or as a gift for someone who enjoys singing hymns.

Robert Morgan did a great job researching and writing! What a wonderful idea to write books that give words to the hymns and also the historical information as to how each came about. Easy to read, concise and interesting.
