Luis Bunuel Boxset [DVD]

Phenomenal set of Bunuel blu-rays. Excellent transfers, I can't imagine the movies looking and sounding any better than this. The set doesn't include some earlier masterworks like Un Chien Andalou, The Exterminating Angel, Los Olvidados and others. But it does include a good chunk of his strongest movies, and many good extras. I would say this is a must-have if you're a fan of Bunuel's work.

In the world of Bunuel nothing is predictable and out of the banal comes an unexpected and hilarious noir perception of the world ... Truly ... 'A Slipping Glimpser' ... dream and reality merge ... in these tales of the incongruence in our bourgeois materialistic world ...All these movies are film making of the highest order and totally intriguing and compelling ... and as a box set represent excellent value for money ... ( however if you are actually are a surrealist ... money should never ever be a main concern in life ! ) ... the prints are bit soft soft and wobbly but I remember seeing the movies years ago .. and they were always a bit like that ... there is the advantage of English subtitles if your French is rusty ...These are wonderful memorable masterworks superbly acted by great stars and bear repeated viewing and analysis ... highly recommended

Films I missed first time round and am trying to catch up on. Still raw and fresh and shake one up contemporary impact must have been extraordinary.

This is a great boxset containing 7 of Bunuel's later works. I've only seen 4 to date and they've all looked and sounded great for DVD quality. I am looking forward to more releases of Bunuel on Blu-Ray, hopefully by Eureka! in their "Masters of Cinema" collection. This is a great buy and definitely worth it.Also, all the films contain subtitles that can be turned off (of course) and extras, like the marvelous documentary found on "The Diary of a Chambermaid" disc "A corpse in the swamp". I will return after watching everything and posting all the info here but i wanted to write this provisory review because amazon has written on this page that someone complained that this is an inadequate product, and it certainly isn't the case.

Up there with Hitch as my favourite director.
