This book was recommended reading for an Earth Watch Volunteer Program I had signed up for working with Leatherback Sea Turtles in Costa Rica. Absolutely fascinating read. I learned so much about not just the Leatherback Sea Turtles but all species of Sea Turtles. This book is exceptionally well written and is easy to understand and comprehend. I was excited to learn about my home state of South Carolina's important role in saving these magnificent sea creatures. You will not want to put this book down. It has lots of important information and will hopefully encourage those that read this book to not only play a more active role in saving our marine life but also give them the tools and information that they will need to help educate others on the importance of these animals to our world.

A compelling story full of facts, first hand accounts, science, and, politics. An addictive read that not only explains the complicated story behind the saving of this species, but does so in such a completely honest and fair manner. One can understand how we all- environmentalists, fishermen, government politicians, and the general public- are fighting for the same thing, conservation of our planets endangered resources. Rare to find a book which tells the whole story, from every angle, without bias for anything besides the endangered creature itself. Even rarer to find one written in such a easy to read and addictive flow. Hard to put down and a recommended read for anyone interested in our oceans.

Great information about Leatherback turtles and raises many good conservation issues challenging not only leatherbacks but also loggerheads, greens, and hawksbills..

This is a well-written and enjoyable read. Through this book, I have learned a great deal about sea turtles (particularly Leatherbacks), as well as other ocean animals. Also about the efforts of conservationists to preserve sea turtles the obstacles they have faced.

So grateful for this book which helped me in my thinking (and future action!) about environmental issues.Toward the end of his absorbing and beautifully written exploration, the author comes to this conclusion about the fate of the endangered turtles: You dodge despair by not taking the deluge of problems full-bore. I have read just about every book regarding sea turtles over the past 40 years. This book by Carl Safina is at the top of the list !! The facts he contains are new and very recent. His focus on the leatherback sea turtle is remarkable and much needed as this is the turtle we know the least about. It is a mix of data, sociology, history and philosophy all told as a story and gives an entire picture of the natural history of the leatherback. Go for the hard copy, even if used. The paperback printing is not very good and the photos are quite poor, compared to the hardbound - I have both. I bought the paperback for the plane and loved it. But, when I saw the quality of the hardbound at the library, I bought that version too ...it was "used" but effectively new and CHEAPER. Believe me, the photos are no comparison and the print is much better, not blurred.

Others have already written much better reviews than I could, and they are not exaggerated reviews either. This book pulled me in and I didn't want to stop reading. It moved me to tears, but also gave hope that we could turn the tide. Before I even finished the book I emailed friends and told them to put down whatever they're reading now, and start reading this book. I have an informal list of my top five favourite non-fiction books, and Voyage of the Turtle is now easily in my top five books. Beautifully written. poignant, wonderful, and very informative. A unhesitating five stars.

A factual and well written description of turtles. I bought this as a gift for a 10 year old who has coped with the content. I have also found it to be an interesting book. Photographs are great.
