1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die Paperback – October 1, 2012

This seems to me a very subjective selection of books. I have no idea what the compiler's criteria were.

Having read several books and lists of "the books you should read before you die", I've found that the book descriptions usually include spoilers. You get hooked by the possibility of a new book, and then all too soon you know the entire content and outcome - you no longer need to buy the book! The 1001 book is different - it manages to combine a book synopsis with only enough detail to grab and inspire you. My copy has post it stickers all over it now with books I really am inspired to purchase and read. A real gem to leave on a nearby table at all times.

the book looked old and damaged :(

I expected this book to be about English-language literature (although it doesn't say so, so I should not have assumed). About half the books are foreign-language translations. Personally, I would have liked the translations to be a separate volume, but if you're not bothered by that you will enjoy this book. Each book listed is accompanied by a somewhat academic review and some information about the author. I've already read eight or so authors new to me, and look forward to trying more (even the translations!).

Great book , have started the challenge already , anything that encourages people to read more and expand their vocabulary is a good thing.
