The Great Book of Ancient Egypt: In the Realm of the Pharaohs

Have to give 5 stars to the book, its beautiful, however stronger packaging wuld have been a good idea. It came in a light carboard envelope, bearing in mind the book is very heavy. The book look like it had been dropped with slight damage on the corners, usually I would return it but unfortunatley we are dropping parcels off this weekend so no time. Again a really lovely book but very poor packaging, so 0 stars for that.

As a keen gardener and knowing that I would be at a loss during the winter months, I looked for a pastime for this period. I decided to fulfil a long time desire to learn more about ancient Egypt.I follow all of the programmes on Sky Documentaries on the subject.They tend to whet the appetite and I found the book provides far more detail than a documentary can in one hour.I would fully recommend this book to anyone like myself who has an interest in the subject.

This book is superbly put together by egyptologist Zahi Hawass it guides you through the architectural landscape of paraomic egypt from houses and places of the living to the temples of the gods to the tombs of the dead, there are hundreds of color photographs and compeling text unveil the mysteries of ancient egypt and how the ancient egyptians lived and how they prepared for death, this book takes you through the most important sites of egypt from the pyramids to the valley of the kings to abu simbel, it gives you the history of the most famous kings and queens,Zahi Hawass shares details of his personal adventures and reveals his own sense of the magic of the pharaohs,there are some outstanding photographs and known facts about the lives of the people and the royalty of egypt.

I bought this book because I have others written by Zahi Hawass and I am not disappointed. The book is absolutely gorgeous, high quality paper, beautiful images, detailed information on the history of Ancient Egypt. The book was brand new, sealed in plastic, I got it wrapped in 2 boxes, I was really impressed by the care the seller took to make sure it arrived in perfect condition. Thank you !

A heavy, beautiful book containing lavish photos and authoritative written detail by the finest and most knowledgeable of Egyptologists. A perfect reference for anyone curious about this subject. Superb.

Extraordinarily beautiful book. Beautifully laid out, with jaw dropping pictures. Also smells gorgeous of lithographic ink showing there was no skimping on the final presentation. A real work of art. The text, while useful, definitely plays second fiddle to the visual content - which I think is apt.

The spine was super wonky so front and back cover sat at a diagnostic. Not the quality expected , and some of it bent in. Will be purchasing from a seller who actually cares . Not a cheap book either

A gorgeous book as always, from Zahi Hawass, I also have the Tutankhamen book by this author which is equally as impressive as this. The greatest Egyptologist I think we have ever had, I love his books. Just a pleasure to read and printed on beautiful paper, glossy photographs, just amazing.

Primarily a picture book, although the accompanying commentaries are nicely done and I find them very informative. Zahi Hawass, is an exceptionally clear and readable author and has a poet's talent for conveying the grandeur of the study of history both through text and pictures.

I like pretty much anything about Egypt. I am 73 and have wanted to go there for 65 yrs. I am finally going to live my dream. This is a well written book that I enjoy.
