Calibrated Coffee Tamper 51mm Espresso

About the time I purchased this originally, I was just starting to make cappuccinos and lattes for family. I had used other tampers, even one I printed on my 3D printer, but this one is my main tamper now.

I'm new to using an espresso machine but this tamper has worked great for me. I could not get a good tamp on my espresso grounds until I got this tamper. It works great. It's a little hard for me to push all the way down but mainly due to the fact that I have some joint pain in my fingers. I can still manage to make it work just fine. Definitely worth the money

I bought this for a 58mm portafilter basket and it does an okay job of compressing the cake. The main concern is that it is not a perfect fit and the tamper has unnecessary movement on the side, so this means it may be designed for a 58mm basket, but it is not truly a 58mm fit.Thus, the cakes I get from tamping have excess residual grounds that are not tamped efficiently. Okay, but would have rather bought the Normcore for a little more money.

This tamper feels good in the hand, hefty and solid. Has a spring inside to help smash the grounds. The size is 49mm and works well with my Mr. Coffee Espresso.

No surprises, product description is accurate. Can't tell how much compaction it is generating......but don't care as it is pulling consistent brew. Too early to rate it 5-stars as I have only used it for a week. Overall very satisfied as the product description was accurate and I kind-off knew what to expect. Received it on time, well packaged.

Like others have said, the main two problems are- it 'sticks' when you press it in. This isn't actually a problem in use, because it only does this if you're not pushing down straight. You can also fix the issue by disassembling it and putting a bit of canola oil or similar on the sliding parts to lubricate them.- it's not calibrated correctly. I tested mine by just pressing it into a bathroom scale. I was getting ~35 pounds upon fulling pressing. You don't need an exact 30 pounds for tamping, you just need consistency, which is what you'll get.

I had used the plastic tamper that came with my Pavoni espresso machine for over 20 years and finally upgraded. Should have done it sooner. Feels nice and heavy but I have not measured if the spring is truly calibrated. But it feels like it's about right.

Not enough precise. This tamper is cheap, good looking and is a real 58mm. But not precise enough. Between the moment where to piston start to kick in and stop while touching the bottom, there is a too much wide range of pressure. Mine start kicking at around 9lbs of pressure to end somewhere between 28 and 45lbs. Very difficult to be precise and everytine I tested it, I ended up a different pressure measure, which defeat the purpose of buying this. Good product if you don't care about the pressure output consistency.

Great press, better than normal press that has no calibration.Nice and firm makes it easy.

Great tamper, helps create great espresso.

Really helped me get a feel for tamping pressure and has improved the consistency of my shots dramatically
