Donna's review
This is a great book! I have learned so much from it. It is written in easy to understand format. So informative as well. I have yorkies and I was breeding one of them for the first time. I was so unsure of what to do, as I am an amateur at this game...laughing. This book helped me to understand so much and removed all my worries that I wouldn't do things right. Well....apparently I did! My baby girl, Crissi, is having Mama some babies! I am so excited I just cannot wait...they will be born October 25th, my brother's birthday...may he rest in peace...and they will be just in time for Christmas puppies! I can truthfully say that had it not been for the information I learned from this book, I would not have decided to breed my girls. I was so afraid, but this book staightend that out! I recommend it to ANYONE who is new at breeding, and even ones who do breed. A friend of mine who has breeding yorkies for almost 15 years.... and she even learned from this book!!! Kudos to the author and thanks so much for relieving my fears of breeding small dogs. Now my other girl, "Princess AnnaBelle" has come into season, so more puppies will be coming soon. Thanks, a million times over!!! Great Author...I would give him TEN STARS!!!!!

Must have for owners of pregnant dogs
I have 2 German Shepherds, male and female, and they were let out together when the female was in heat. Anyway, an unintentional pregnancy occurred and I had no idea what to expect or how to take care of my dog or her puppies. This book provided all the information you need for all stages of pregnancy, labor, weaning, etc. I would recommend for anyone needing easy to understand information.

Great Book!
This book was written by a veterinarian. It goes into very good detail on what is actually required for quality breeding as well as pregnancy, whelping, neonatal puppy care stewardship, etc. Well written & very informative.

Good for first time breeding
So helpful in whelping my golden! I could’ve used a few more in depth descriptions but I felt like it gave me a good overview and basis as a first time breeder. If you’re looking for week by week as puppies grow through, look for another book. This book focuses on the breeding portion more than the puppy follow up care. It was very easy to go through though and easy to find answers quickly when needed.

My Dog Breeding Bible
While I have had dogs my entire life, I have never bred them before. My Vet was vague with information so I sought out my own sources. I purchased a couple books and spent many hours on the internet trying to educate myself. This book had all the information I needed and more. Our puppies were born 3 days ago and I have been able to handle everything that has come along. I now feel confident in continuing to take care of these newborn pups and their mom. Any time I have a question I just reread the section it was discussed in. If there is one book to have on hand for a breeding dog -- this is it. In fact this is the ONLY book I will ever need!

Good reference for beginners, but keep in touch with your vet!
I bought this book specifically to review the whelping section for clients who are beginner breeders ( at least on the female side, they have always had stud dogs) and found direct, succinct advice that was easy to read. This is a great reference for beginners/novice breeders, but make sure that you contact your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns, and let them know what materials you are reading.

Not very informative overall, vague and not much whelping info.
I wouldn't call this the complete book of dog breeding by any stretch, lots of nice photos of dogs which waste space when a more detailed approach would be much more useful, have bought another book which is much more informative and helpful. Wouldn't recommend for a first time breeder.

Plenty of good information
As first time breeders we needed help. Obviously there was more info than we really needed and a lot was rather technical vet-speak. A little too American too. A simpler book would probably have suited us better but a good, interesting read, nevertheless.

One piece of misinformatiion spoils this book.
On the whole this book is good BUT in the passage on imminent whelping signs (page 80) it says that green vaginal discharge due to early placental detachment may be seen several hours before the first pup is born. Other authorities warn that this indicates problems as the placenta shouldn't be detached until birth. Reading this book could lead an owner to think all is normal when actually puppies were dying due to being stuck inside the mother.

Good Cover that's all
I purchased 3 books on dog breeding, this is my least favourite, the cover is enchanting and a few pretty pictures inside, there are better descriptive books out there, It's not as informative as the 'The Book of the Bitch' by JM Evans & Kay White which is a complete understanding and caring for your bitch and full of useful tips, well written.
