The Easy 1930s Fake Book: 100 Songs in the Key of C (Easy Fake Book)

I have several of the Hal Leonard "easy fake books." This one has a nice selection of tunes with emphasis on the old standards. The (minor) criticism of the easy fake book series is that all songs are converted to the key of C with simplified arrangements. I'd rather than the songs were converted to either the keys of C, F or G, depending on the range of the song. Some pieces are somewhat weird sounding due to being converted to the C key... and ending up with too many deeper notes --I note that Hal Leonard's "EZ Play" songs (that have similar simplified arrangements (but often are simplified to the point of losing opening sequences and some sophistication) are frequently arranged in the Keys of F or G (and even D or Bb) -- but instead of using a key signature, simply show all sharp or flat notes with individual markings.

I love the Easy Fake Book series and own almost all of them. I am an improv piano player; my vision is poor and the large print makes them easy to see. I'm not crazy about everything being in the key of "C" but at least it's easy to morph from one song to the next, and I can always augment the simplified chord choices. I highly recommend these books for any player who wants a good collection.

Quite a good selection, although admittedly several of these oldies appear in various publications already. I like the notion of digging up old forgotten melodies, but a bit more research into the lesser-known would be appreciated

A superb selection of music from an era that boasted some of the best songwriting teams, ever.

I had cataract issues over the past 18 months, and having larger print really helped.
