Great quality sturdy, great price
Received this item 11/21 and it was a used returned item through Amazon definitely dropped the ball on checking their returns! It had been used with hair caught in it, with rust aound the screws, and the cord was shorting out. So i called amazon requesting a new replacement. Representative assured me the nasty broken one did not need returned and I promptly disposed of it in the garbage can! "DISGUSTING" Which I received my replacement from Amazon this morning 11/22 at 5:09 am. Amazon really stepped up on this issue. Definitely "NEW" as you can see. Amazon made it right and I am very happy with the new curler and Amazon Customer Service. You can't really go wrong with the Hot Tool curling iron. Quality is top notch and will definitely will last longer, is slightly heavier than cheaper ones, the temperature controls are great, but must warn you this model and brand does get extremely hot so caution is definitely required when using. I have been using a 2" curling iron from this brand for years both professionally and personally and in my opinion it is well worth the money. I just changed to the 1 -1/2" for a little tighter curl. And very happy. I definitely recommend this model for most but I would probably not use it on super fine hair and would recommend using a heat protecting spray when using this iron. The heat does assure longer lasting curls, but curl size is also determined by the size of the barrel. Loose flowing curls with long hair use a larger size, whereas a tigher curl or short hair you would need a smaller size. But this is a high quality, study curling iron that will definitely provide a longer lasting curl and last years longer than cheaper brands.

Almost 5-Stars!
I love the 1.5" barrel diameter. Perfect for large, loose curls which usually end up as tousled waves since I rarely use hairspray or high heat. The barrel is a shiny gold color and hair easily glides off of it when releasing the clamp. Iron heats up very fast, only a couple minutes. I also love that the temperature control is away from the handle grip so no accidental temperature changes. I use the lowest setting and typically that's enough for me - but you can really turn up the heat if you have unprocessed, coarse or heavy hair. What I don't like is the clamp has a hinge with rivets which long hair loves to get caught in. This is common with irons with clamps. I can usually keep hair from getting stuck by slowly pulling the iron straight down as I release the clamp. I also wish the barrel was longer so it could wind more hair. The clamp seems to need a tightening & I did see a screw but not easy to reach with a regular screwdriver. There isn't an automatic shut off so be mindful of that. The price is a little high but I've used it several times a month for almost 1.5 years without any issues, can't complain. Overall it's a pretty decent curling iron with a larger barrel which is harder to find.

Creates nice big curls
I'm a fan of Hot Tools. I've used a previous version curling iron of theirs. It worked well and lasted a long time. So I knew what brand I wanted for my next one. The 1 1/2" barrel is a nice size makes a big curl. They're more on the loose end because of the size. But that's the look I was wanting any way. I have thick hair and like to keep my max setting at 380°. Just to keep the heat damage down. . But it's nice to have the option to raise it if needed. The curl holds and sets well. The overall design is nice. It has a large, thick piece of some type of heat resistant material on the thumb piece. So it keeps you from burning yourself. Like wise on the end of the barrel. It also has a long cord with a swivel that attaches to the base. It keeps the cord from wrapping up while your twisting it. The barrel glides well on your hair and doesnt catch. I'm looking forward to another few years with this iron. Definitely a good buy and worth the affordable price!

Best iron EVER!
I'm 72 and have used irons a long time. Most wouldn't get hot enough to hold the curl for long, which is a big problem for below the shoulder length hair that is thin and has little to no body on top but a little body ears down to the ends. This iron took my hair that looked horrible because I had just started steroid pills and flexeril for a pinched nerve in my neck, coupled with a sinus flare-up which left me just plain miserable. So, my hair after 2 days of "out of it mentality" was in really bad shape. Took me maybe between 15 and 20 minutes to try out my brand new curling iron. First thing I noticed when sliding the hair onto the rod and clamping it, was that, it happened quickly and painlessly. No pulling hair because of the clamp. The clamp held my hair neatly as I curled my hair around it. A big plus. Everything went so easily. I returned "my last ordered iron" because the clamp wouldn't hold my hair while I tried to roll it. That iron cost a lot more than this one too. Anyway, this iron rolled and held my hair nicely leaving it long and fuller than I expected, and after cooking chicken alfredo and making tea my hair still has some body left. Usually, there would be zilch body, none whatsoever because of steam and some light sweating in a hot kitchen. So, I truly, truly love this iron. It is worth every penny. Matter of fact I purchased another one today. It's on sale and I am blessed to have caught it at this low price. I personally would highly recommend this quality, and, not to forget, very pretty gold color curling iron. And, the handle is perfect holding size and the whole iron is light in weight. I'm a extremely happy customer. 10 stars.

1.5 inch regular length barrel, perf for loose curl/waves on long asian hair!
HAIR TYPE: i'm Filipina. my hair goes past the middle of my back, pin straight (rarely holds a loose wave/curl), i have "thick" hair because i have a lot of it, but my individual strands are fine/thin. WHAT: i purchased the 1.5 inch curling iron, normal length. i'm curious about the extra long barrel but didn't notice the option until after i purchased it already lol still worked perfectly though! HOW: with my hair type (straight, fine strands, a little oily at the roots, have to wash it often). 1) on freshly washed hair, applied It's A 10! product on the middle of my strands down to the ends, and blow dried on warm for a bit and switched to cool for the majority of the time until completely dry. 2) i set the temperature to 330º and let it heat up (heats up in 30 secs! i still wait about a min or two before curling though lol) 3) i sectioned my hair into two parts, bottom and top. starting with the bottom half i curled my hair away from my face on each side - i grab a section about 1.5-2inches thick (i like grabbing differently thickness of sections each time so it doesn't look too perfect/uniform! i want a slightly tousled/textured look), run the iron through the entire section once, then clamp about halfway down the section and curl away from my face leaving about two inches away from my scalp, hold for 6 seconds, pull it ~2 more inches down and curl again, hold for 5 seconds, pull it down the section again leaving ~1.5-2 inches of my ends free from the curling iron, curl again and hold for 4 seconds. repeat on each side then use a butterfly clip to hold them all together. then starting on the top second i curl away from my face on each side again using the same technique. IMPORTANT: the pieces closer to the front/framing my face i grab about 2-2.5 inch sections so the waves look even larger/loose around my face so it looks "windblown". 4) i removed the butterfly clip, turned over and shook my hair out and flipped it standing up, then used bumble and bumble dryspun texturizing spray and used my fingers to lift at the roots but spray mainly on the middle/ends of the hair, only spraying very lightly at the roots since too much product at my roots will weigh my hair down and make it sit super flat :( lol voila! i'm so glad that i found this curling iron. glad it heats up so quickly and looks pretty too! definitely recommend, especially for this price! p.s. i didn't get the extra long barrel, but i feel like i could've gotten either and it would have worked the same.

Beware!! Third use and it burned my hair off!
This curling iron arrived on Feb. 17th 2020, I used it once that day at heat setting 350. My hair turned out great. It was easy to use. I always use a heat protectant, and don't use any extra styling products in my hair. I used the iron again a day later, also on 350 heat setting and again great hair. However, today I plugged it in and again set it to 350 heat setting. Just before I used the iron I noticed a "hot" smell. I double checked that I had it set to 350 and not the highest heat setting of 450, and indeed it was set to 350. So, I thought the smell was perhaps because it was so new. The moment I put the iron to my hair to begin to curl my hair, I immediately smelled a burned hair smell and removed the iron... too late. I hadn't even clamped the iron over the piece of hair I planned to curl in the front of my head. The moment the iron touched my hair it burned it. It smelled horrid! In shock, I brushed through the piece of hair and found that many strands came out. Throughout the morning I noticed more hair just falling out from that piece. The photo shows my hair is long and the close up shows the weird spiky pieces I have from where this wretchedly malfunctioning curling iron has burned my hair off!! I read a review that said someone had used it five months and had similar experience, but I thought perhaps that person abused the iron. I have only had this iron 3 days and it has already malfunctioned and burned my hair. I'm not sure how hot an iron must be to burn hair at the first touch, but I'm guessing it must be way beyond its max heat setting of 450. I'm returning this and going to try another iron with only excellent reviews. Buyer beware.
