IOTA DLS-27-40 Converter and Charger

I've been using Iota power supplies for many decades and this one is like all the others - well engineered and built like a brick poop house! It charges my 24VDC battery bank comprised of 3 strings of 4 each, DEKA 8L16 batteries perfectly. No annoying humming, fan is very quiet, unit is lightweight and easy to mount.It gets 4 stars instead of 5 because;1. It costs too much. I think $250 is a reasonable price point for this unit. They're competing with the PowerMax PM3-40-24. Since I don't know anything about the PowerMax unit and I do know Iota, that's what I bought but for a price difference of $140 I was tempted to switch brands.2. It's clearly advertised as coming with the IQ4, 4 stage charging module but mine didn't. When I called, the vendor was polite and efficient, sending the module out 2nd day, but it caused me a delay I wasn't expecting. Since this battery bank runs the heat pumps that heat and cool my house, this was more than a minor inconvenience.3. It came with a NEMA 5-20p plug! I suppose they did this because under full load it will pop a 15A breaker so they wanted to make sure it was plugged into a 20A circuit. Anyway, it caught me by surprise and caused another interruption with the installation as I debated whether to run to the store and spend $15 on a matching receptacle or cut the plug off the end and put a standard plug on. I had a standard plug at home so that's what I ended up doing.4. The line cord gets warm under full load. Being Iota, I'm quite sure it's safe but increasing the line cord size a notch would be an improvement.

On the second use, my unit made an electrical smoke smell.

Works great, puts out over the rating, works with fluctuating AC input. The price is less than wholesale from RE suppliers. Fast shipping, have bought other items from this co. with complete satisfaction.

Honest 40 amps, regulated 27.6 volts.power cord has an oddly unusual nema 5-20p plug, I am not sure why.

I am using this product to run solar powered equipment at night. IT seems to be cheaply made but it is doing the job for me right now.

I already had a 25 amp but I wanted more since the generator was running anyway. I live off-grid and use it on cloudy days when batteries run low.

I use this to charge my bank of solar panel batteries as needed. When finished it floats with no worries.
