Good instrument, for the price.
This is a medium sized gourd, not large enough to produce a bass tone while slapping the bottom, but very loud due to the hard plastic beads it has rather than shells or other "traditional" materials. The string is pretty strong and should wear well if not treated roughly and packed carefully between gigs. The string is not too tight to prevent accurate 16th note shaking, but again, due to its size, it can't be played at slower tempos without considerable technique and control. Price wise, compared to the larger sizes and huge prices offered by major manufacturers, this is a very reasonable "under $100" option.

My son LOVES it. I'm on the fence
My 7yo son was thrilled to receive this for Christmas. It was a good price and he loves to use it. It gives me a massive headache, though. It has cheap plastic pony beads on it, rather than the seashells pictured, so that may affect the sound quality. It's very LOUD. But you get what you pay for. I'd recommend it for children's use - in a room far from you.

Great for the money
Great, loud sound. A little too much on the high end, not as much bass thump as I would like, but not bad and each of these are different. The price is the selling point for this shekere. You can pay much more for LP fiberglass model, but I can't see why. Synthetic material = synthetic sound. Get the real seashells against gritty gourd sound with this.

This is nice, but way too expensive
This is nice, but way too expensive. I got one in Bahia thats bigger and nicer for about $2.

excellent purchase
We are a small preschool- limited budget, but lots of energy! Shekeres - good authentic ones- are expensive. This piece was very, very reasonable so I took a chance on the quality and was very pleasantly surprised. It has a pleasing shape and tone- as good a shekere as I have seen at a fraction of the cost.

Well-packaged and authentic!
I appreciate that this appears to be an authentic shekere. It is much preferred to the plastic shekeres used in most bands now. Kids love to see grab it and play it in my studio, and I recently used it for an African-themed musical. The product arrived intact as well.

It didn't look anything like the picture.
My Shekere is too big. I looks more like a large maraca. It's difficult to learn how to play with it. It's not ergonomic !
