The Penguin Portuguese Phrasebook (The Penguin Phrasebook Library)

A cute little phrasebook with everything in it I expected. It really should be used for travel when in a pinch and that it what it is made for, so don't expect to learn anything but phrases from this. I practiced the pronunciation that the book offers out loud with my Brazilian friend and the pronunciation part of the book was easy for me to grasp (though of course I cannot perfect it using this book or even come close) and is certainly good enough for you to be understood in a foreign country.

Brazilian Portuguese is a lovely language, and this helped me get my foot in the door to understanding it. The phrases were very helpful and the pronunciation guide was a godsend.

SO HELPFUL! EASY

I studied Portuguese as a student, but a long while ago, and I wanted to bring my vocabulary up to date for a trip to Lisbon. I bought this book and the Lonely Planet guide equivalent, so Pros and Cons between the two guides:PRO Penguin: Well laid out, lots of useful phrases, very accessible, more information for those who want to dig deeper and/or stay longer, lots of up-to-date wordsCON Penguin: All pronunciation is in Brazilian Portuguese & Braz phrases and vocab are preferred (5 stars for visitors to Brazil and Zero for Portugal - [pronunciation is totally different]) ; the book is uncomfortably bigger/chunkier; there is only one dictionary (English-Port), i.e. not both ways.Conclusion: choose this one if going to Brazil
