Incredibly fun & unnerving
The slappy dialogue. The edge of reality being a very blurred line that the characters are either ignoring or trapped between. The realism in connecting to present day & internet culture only adding more a questionable stability of the story's internal reality- or lack thereof. If you want a cosmic horror that is just as enjoyable and hilarious as it is deeply unsettling, this is it

So ready for the next one!
If you like horror comedy, odds are you will love this book. Hilarious, dark, and creative, it put me to the edge of my seat! The only thing that drove me crazy was how many questions left unanswered, but I’m hoping they will be resolved soon!

Great read
This is a super awesome book. I originally started my Jack Townsend journey with, "The Green Night", THAT was a phenomenal book. Many things make more sense now, after reading this first book in the series, but I will be ordering book 2. These appealed to me because I can relate to the hor that is loaded in here, and the character Jack. I designate with 'Marlboro', Jerry. All around, good reads. I like to place lighter books in between my heavy reads, and these deliver. Just buy them already!!!

Very Hitch hikers guide-esque
This book was so much fun! It reminds me of a horror/thriller/drug induced tripping version of Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. This was so well done. So engaging and funny and just all around weird. It keeps you so engaged with its weirdness that you want to keep turning pages!

Easier to read than Stephen King
I must admit, this book ended up being better than most Stephen King novels. I never had to try to get into the plot or “push through the slow beginning.”I just enjoyed it from the very beginning all the way to the end, and I can’t say that about too many books. I loved it and have already bought the paperback versions of this whole set. If you like dark humor, supernatural and/or sci-fi horror, you should definitely read it. This book also has a Fight Club or A Beautiful Mind aspect to it—where you’re not sure what’s happening to the protagonist is actually happening or if it’s all in his head.

Frustrating.
I kept hoping for something of consequence to happen, but it never did. Characters are paper-thin, development is non-existent, and everything is layered in a sort of lol-random flavor that I couldn't enjoy. Maybe the author was extremely cleverly and deliberately writing an unreliable narrator, or maybe using an unreliable narrator to mask mediocre writing, or more likely I'm an unpleasable wonk on the internet.

What an amazing book!
I’ve always wanted to read the Tales from the gas station books and I’m so glad I did, since they’re amazing!

Pure Entertainment
If you want a fun read of the fantasy kind, this is your book. In a nutshell it is essentially a guy that works in a typical type gas station/mini mart that is anything but typical and he journals and blogs his misadventures of the supernatural kind.Jack is the main character that suffers from a fatal insomnia disease which is the source for his quirky indifference and ability to cope with all the bizarre happenings at his job. He's a good guy everyman that Is just wanting to get on with his ordinary, albeit short, life without drama but herein lies the rub, because life throws a continuous supply of drama in his lap almost daily. This was a quick read that keeps you guessing about what comes next with a cool protagonist antihero and good doses of humor and interesting characters. I plan on reading the series to see what becomes of Jack and the gas station next. This book is sprinkled with bits of cuss words so if that is offensive to you this may not be for you.
