Love, love, love!
So, I didn't know it's possible to love a trashcan as much I currently love this trashcan! But, I absolutely love it! Unlike our last trashcan. So, we moved about six months ago and I spent $30 on a trashcan at that time, which felt like a lot of money. It recently died (not sure if it was poorly made or we were too rough with it but the lid is no longer staying properly attached and opening and closing as it should). So, I started my search for a new trashcan. I found one at a local place that was $40, which felt like a lot. Brought it home. Set it up. And was incredibly dissatisfied immediately. After stepping off the foot press, the lid came crashing down. I am sensitive to noise and quickly knew this was not a good fit for our family of six. Besides it seemed a little small with the round opening. Back to the store it went along with a lot of time to get there and back. Finally I went to Amazon. This is the trashcan that stood out to me. I hated the thought of paying so much, but I also knew by this point that not all trashcans are created equal. I read a number of reviews and though a few weren't great, I decided to chance it based on the really good reviews. It arrived today and I immediately fell in love with it. Completely! No complaints whatsoever. Here are some of the pros: it doesn't tip over at all. Just sits nice and solid on the floor when you open and close it (our $30 trashcan tipped horribly). It soft closes. Very nice and soft. Zero sound. LOVE THAT!!! Especially after the horrible noise the $40 trashcan made. Next, the lid can stay open by itself if necessary (the $40 one couldn't). Also, it looks amazing! Neither the $30 or $40 could really claim that status. Additionally, the lid opens without banging the counter or cabinet. Last, I wasn't sure I'd need/want the bag container in the back, but now that the trashcan has arrived, I actually think that is a pretty cool feature. Did I leave anything out? Hmmmm. Hope not. You get what you pay for. I recommend paying a little more and getting a trashcan that you'll absolutely love!

great product & customer service
The trash can looks great and is the perfect size for our under-counter space. The automatic opener worked perfectly for 2 years, when the hinge of the lid broke. The good news: the product has a long warranty, and customer service replaced it right away, no hassle. The place to contact should happen is: gladhousewares dot com -- which handles these products. Customer service was absolutely great; brand new can came in less than a week. Had to email a photo of the problem and copy of Amazon invoice, but that was easy. So nice to be treated so well.

Good trash can - worth the premium
My family had an older Simple Human trashcan in the kitchen for years and it finally broke. I like Simple Human, but the bags were annoying to load (and my husband complained every time someone else did it because we never got it right). I picked this trash can because it had features the old one didn't - a soft-close lid, odor control, and resistance to fingerprints. It's also way easier to load and my husband doesn't complain about it anymore. When we first got it, we would step on the pedal harder than needed because the old can took some oomph to open it all the way. The lid on the new can would slam against the counter. I solved that by using painter's tape and putting an empty paper towel roll where the lid hit the counter. It helped us get used to how hard we needed to press the pedal while saving the lid from damage. Thanks!

Wayyyyy over engineered. Yeah, this can be an issue.
Very sturdy and easy to use. It holds a garbage bag as advertised. However, for something as simple as a step on container that is to hold a 13 gallon garbage bag, this thing is way over designed. Some engineer somewhere must have been paid by the hour to design this thing. Nooks and crannies everywhere, which you would think wouldn't be an issue, until it's time to clean it out. This thing bites and scratches you when being cleaned more than a feral cat. Bag replacement also awkward. Overall a good can, but over priced at $94.

This one opens fully without banging into the countertop
It took me a ridiculously long time to find a stainless steel kitchen garbage can, and they cost a lot more than I was expecting. But with all new, stainless appliances, I needed to replace my white plastic and constantly dirty can. My biggest problem was finding one that would fit under a countertop with the lid open and this is pretty much the only 13 gal model I could find that does. While I was initially disappointed that the top is black plastic rather than stainless, this has ended up being a plus because it hides the spills that accumulate around the opening of the can. It has metal brackets that hold the bag securely and it is easy to use. My only complaints are rather minor. First, I wish it had an inner, removable container. Sometimes accidents happen and the can needs to be hosed out. The bottom of this one is not smooth so there is quite a bit of work to do to get it clean. Second, there is a holder for plastic bags on the back. I will never use it, so it just takes up extra room and makes the can stand an extra 2.5 inches away from the wall. This was one if the less expensive stainless steel cans but the fact that it was made by Glad gave me confidence that it would be well designed, sturdy and take regular garbage bags.

Sturdy and BEAUTIFULLY designed
We had a Simply Human waste can for years and years. It was wonderful. But I decided to replace it with this can because of the reviews. Our old waste can showed every fingerprint, and for some reason--maybe it was the smaller circular opening--things got slopped on it. I hated the way the inside trash bags draped over its sides. THIS can is ingenious. First, its flat side fits snug against the wall; no wasted space. The sides and pedal are much easier to wipe clean; don't know why. The top is black plastic; MUCH easier to keep clean. The trash bag is folded cleverly inside under metal braces; none of that ugly hanging outside. When the lid closes, it does so slowly and quietly; it doesn't bang down. And best of all (you'll think this is silly), you CANNOT open the recessed lid with your finger; you have to use the foot pedal. Now, that may not seem like as asset, but think about it. For some reason, members of my family would lift that old lid with their fingers--unsanitary and one of the reasons for all the fingerprints. Now they can't. And I just LOVE that.
