Excellent merino shirt - size matters
I'm a Briton living long-term in a semi-tropical country. So when I come back to the UK, even in spring, I need something that's going to keep out the biting British cold. My Brass Monkeys t-shirt was waiting for me when I arrived a week ago, and I've worn it every day since. In the house I wear it under a sweater, and when I'm out I just wear a windbreaker with a good warm neck and tight sleeves. This is enough to keep me very comfortable in weather that ranges from 5 C in the morning to 12 C by mid-afternoon. I have worn it next to my skin every day for seven days now, and it doesn't smell or feel uncomfortable. (I'm sensitive to odour, and I tend to run hot, so that's very important to me.)However, I feel that this shirt is not being marketed as a base layer so much as a warm fashion t-shirt. At first I bought an XL (40-42") because I'm a little stocky and if I tense my torso I measure 41" across the chest. The XL turned out to be way too big for a base layer. It basically fits me like a regular nice black t-shirt, which is how I've been wearing it (since I was too lazy to send it back). But I was so impressed with the shirt that I have bought another, a medium (36-38") to fit my 39" slouch. This is perfect as a base layer and it's obviously also both a lot warmer and a lot better at wicking moisture. I might end up using this under a sports top when going for a run, so that will be very useful. So I strongly recommend this brand, but I urge you to think carefully about the sizing and how it relates to your intended use. As far as I'm concerned, I now have the perfect clothing for travelling around northern Europe.

Brass Monkeys - Crew Neck Thermal - 100% Merino Wool
First time Merino user.I ordered the medium as the large was not available so it fits pretty snug.I am a sweaty bastard, so I am pleased to report that after 3 days wearing this T-shirt without deodorant (2 of which were walking around all day getting sweaty), it still smells pretty neutral. The real test will be washing it and seeing if any funky smells linger, as that is where cotton shirts fail me.Notes:Feels good when you are sweaty (wicks well).Looks like a casual t-shirt.Feels fresh when putting on the second and third days.Maintains shape so far.UPDATE: I bought two of these and the second one doesn't have the best fit around the neck. It sticks up at the back, which isn't a huge issue except it suggests variability in quality. Apart from this- very pleased.

Thoroughly useful t-shirt
Ideal base-layer during cold UK winter. Used when travelling too, as lightweight merino packs down to small lightweight size. Effective in warm weather too. Apart from being environmentally friendly, remains odour free.

Keeps you warm and feeling dry even when wicking hard during some pretty cold weather
Fits beautifully, no chaffing, nice and cosy even during the very chilly English weather during January February and March. Like the boxers and long sleeved undershirt I bought at the same time it wicks moisture very effectively and do not leave you feeling wet even when on a recovery section. Cant recommend them highly enough. Not cheap but exactly right to do the job I needed doing, as a generally very moist runner who had previously felt the chill if I stopped or slowed these keep me warm even when they are wicking hard! Merino underarmour were recommended on twitter #runchat by other runners to my specific problem of being a runner who got very very wet on runs and really needed something to help make running in the cold months easier, so that I wasnt heating up running then cooling very quickly, being wet, when recovering. these make winter running much more comfy!I bought a long sleeved undershirt and boxers at the same time (having been given another short sleeve undershirt shirt for Christmas) and they have done superb service during the winter, its now (late March) getting a little too warm for the undershirts but the boxers are still perfect!

Brass monkeys t shirt black 2XL - size issues
Wanted as a warm t shirt in cold weather and like merino wool. Unfortunately sizing not as expected. Sent for 2XL thinking it would fit a 44” chest (usually do) but it is about 2 sizes too small and would only probably fit a 38-40” chest. Garment labelled as 2XL on tag. A size chart in the description would be helpful. Disappointed as otherwise was a nice garment. Had to return.

Lovely warm shirt
Use this as under shirt during the winter and spring. Very cosy and warm. We'll made garment and lasts well. Expensive but worth it.

Excellent wicking
Ok it's expensive hence not a full 5 stars, but it does everything it says. Wicks, keeps warm and somehow never smells. Also when I do wash it it's great. Apart from that my favourite feature is the longer back, which is great when I'm bending over alot. Gotta keep your back covered.

Great shirt
I used this as an undershirt for a 3 day cycling trip. It was absolutely superb. Amazingly it did remain odourless.
