Lovely story
Sent this to my son’s class for the Mid Autumn Festival. It was a hit with the kids. They are only 4 but there is room to grow with the books for several years.

Great book to introduce 4-6 years old to Mid Autumn Festival and the Chinese culture
This was a great book to engage 4-5 years old in the celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival as well as introduce them to the Chinese culture. The pictures were wonderful, conveyed the story and the emotions well. The story was interesting enough to keep the kids engaged. I loved the repetitive use of the shopping list! When I was reading to a group of kids, I got the kids to help me remember the last item. "PEANUTS!!" they all shouted.Alas, it may be too long/complicated for 3 years old, I started loosing a few of them half way through.

Great story- great illustrations
This book was purchased for a multicultural theme kit. It was perfect! The story really teaches a valuable lesson about selflessness while introducing children to an experience in a Chinese market. Lin Yi is a character that children can relate to and the illustrations are beautifully done. I read it to my son and he was mesmerized by the pictures! I love this story- it speaks right to the heart of the children and myself.

My five-year olds and I really enjoy this book
My five-year olds and I really enjoy this book. The illustrations are beautifully done, and the story is nice. I appreciate that the paperback cover and pages are of a good, sturdy quality. At the end there are instructions for making a paper lantern, which is a nice, simple activity to tie in.

Drab.
I was intrigued by the lovely cover, but unfortunately I found the story quite dull, and the illustrations dark and depressing. All the characters look misshapen and haggard, like zombies or Tim Burton creations. I personally would've been frightened by them as a child. The overall drab tone seems out of place for what is a gentle, light, and family-friendly festival. I feel that the book's cover does not accurately convey its contents. However, it's evident that a lot of work went into the illustrations, so I rated 2 stars.

Fabulous Book - Engaging Story
I used this book with a class of Foundation Stage pupils along with the storycards produced by Rising Stars. I chose to use it because we have been looking at stories from other cultures.I have given it 5 stars. The children loved it! We read the story and had themed actvities running alongside it all week. The story lends itself to many areas of learning within the Early Years curriculum and the artwork is stunning! In the back of the book there is also the story behind the moon festival - The Moon Fairy Legend. I invited 'Uncle Hui' into class to tell this story which was a nice enrichment activity. The children were full of questions surrounding the story and many have gone on to buy it for home :o)
