Wish I had bought one sooner!
I have deliberated purchasing a Le Creuset casserole dish for many years. I was never quite sure that I could justify the high price tag. However, this dish has absolutely transformed our mealtimes. It truly is worth every single penny.I use it for everything from stove-top soups, to one pot roast chicken dishes and everything in between. It looks stylish, is so incredibly easy to clean and cooks food evenly whilst keeping all of the flavours trapped inside. The main thing that swung it for me was seeing my mother’s 5 year old casserole dish. It was a cheaper model but was still fairly expensive. When she bought it 5 years ago it was stunning and looked comparable to Le Creuset. After 5 years of light use, the paint has almost entirely faded and chipped.I believe that you truly do get what you pay for with Le Creuset. I am hoping to pass these dishes to my young daughters when they set up home for themselves. This size of casserole is perfect for large chickens. It is very heavy, so might not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

Want to create an heirloom? Buy a Le Creuset casserole
This item will outlast most buyers over the age of 35, if treated reasonably. We still use the big one bought for us as a wedding present in 1974. We had "other makes" for several years, but the enamel always chipped. But the old le Creuset though still good, is a little too large for a retired couple, so, hoping it'll be an heirloom, we bought this one. And it is great that the product actually improves- much easier to handle with the "new" handles. Looks classically good, cleans easily, perfect heat distribution -it's just perfect. Ok, it's a lot heavier than some other pots, but it's the best.

Black pots have black interior not light enamel
I think they should state that the external black colour is Matt Black/Liquorice. When they say Black Satin I think they're referring specifically to the black enamel interior which I guess only the black oval casserole pots have. LC might be wanting to win over Staub enthusiasts, who claim better searing and browning of meat with black non-shiny enamel interiors. But then why only the black ovals and not the coloured ovals as well, who knows? I also have a 28cm round Matt black which has a light interior. I'm glad they didn't make the round black casseroles with a black interior as well. I actually prefer to see that a pot is clean. The idea of layers of oils building up inside a pot to develop a patina is not that attractive to me. I can do with less searing if that's the case.
