Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors

Portlandia is one of our favorite shows, with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. They play many differrent characters, and the series is wonderful. so when I saw this 'guidebook for visitors', i had to have it. It is very funny, and includes, fictitious places to go and things to do in Portland. A funny part is a sequence of bicycle hand signals for those who are biking around the city.A great humorous book!

I think if folks don't know about the show or Fred & Carrie then I can see how they can mistake this as a tourist book. It's not. It's a hilarious joke version of the real thing told through the eyes of Portlandia's cornucopia of characters.It's a cute read and I feel this would've been an interesting prop within the show itself. Sadly, I was late to the Portlandia hype train. So if you're a fan of the show and wish to extend the mythos of it then buy it.Note: Photo is from my Instagram so I do have a confirmed copy.

Very funny, well-written and lovely book. I actually brought and used this book when I was in Portland haha. They have some great recommendations with sarcastic and funny voices written as "Fred" and "Carrie". Totally love it.

Full of the same biting humor that you find on Portlandia. Carrie is from Portland so she knows her stuff. We'll be using this as one of our guides on the Portlandia Adventure Tour along with the many other locations mentioned in this book and seen on the Portlandia show for the Portlandia Adventure Tour.These books are delivered to the book stores and to your house from Amazon on zero-carbon footprint bicycles (of course.)

I got this as a decoy to hide Iron Maiden in Portland tickets for a Christmas surprise for the boyfriend. He loved the book as well as the tickets.

I don't like giving this book 1 star. The problem I guess is that I purchased it thinking that it would be a guide to the funky parts of Portland (which part of Portland isn't funky?). Instead I got this fictional guide to some made-up place that's completely based off the tv show. Don't get me wrong, I love Portlandia the show...but I guess I was stupid enough to believe that they would publish a book that actually had to do with PORTLAND and not Portlandia. Either way, Fred and Carrie rock and their writing is awesome. But hey you, looking at this review. Don't buy it if you're looking for a guide to the ACTUAL Portland because you will be squirrely mistaken.

Didn’t really have anything to do in Portland, was more of a parody book

I think everything Fred Armisen does is both funny and thought provoking and this does not disappoint. I keep this on hand for out of town guests who just love it.

This has the same humour as the TV show. It's a light, entertaining read! Buy it if you love the show!

This is a comedy books written by the creators of the show Portlandia, like many comedy books from T.V shows 'The Mighty Book of Boosh', 'The Mitchell and Webb book' this is really only for fans of the show as a lot of the jokes are call backs to the T.V series.This book is not ground breakingly hilarious but it definitely is amusing and makes me want to re-watch the TV series a lot.This is a great book to read whilst doing other things or to pick up and put down as it is written in very short sections. In short I would recommend that this book would make a good gift for any fans of the TV show.
