Buggy driver and layout conflicts
this keyboard looks great and feels well made. The ortholinear style of the keyboard caused me to by it. However, the driver has a bug in it that causes keys from the default layer to be entered when quickly switching to the custom layer. Secondly, while using and programming this board there seem to be backdoor hotkeys that were never removed that caused the board to become unresponsive; somehow the keyboard accessed my BIOS settings and overloaded my memory crashing my computer. Suffice to say the driver is dirty and buggy(but it looks nice on the surface).the the layout of the keyboard is not suited to the driver. There is no way to smartly use the layering system because there are no extra keys to assign the layers to. this keyboard needs some extra keys where the giant 'alt' keys are located (by cutting the alt keys in half and dedicating the two new keys to be access keys to get to the layers and moving the 'os' key and putting another 'Lyr' key there instead (L, L2, L3, and Fn(should be used to access command keys, arrows, and numpad). these special keys need to be programmed so that the user can choose whether they behave as 'hold and release' keys or as 'press to activate(press again to deactivate)(like 'num-lock')' keys. There are three 'ctrl' keys and three 'shift' keys, two 'backspace' keys and two 'enter' keys and an extra 'spacebar' on this keyboard so if the driver wasn't a buggy mess(as of 2/16/20) you could use these keys, but because of its bad driver this is not an option.this keyboard also needs to offer per character customization of keys(so i can put an accent symbol on the 'A' key if i want to)(the ability to change the default parings on the keys), but doesn't. Where are the home, end, and pgbreak keys? who thought leaving those off was a good idea?I would really like to see these keyboard-wrecking problems fixed in a version 2 of this board, even a serious driver update could fix these problems(there are extra keys on the keyboard). I also think i should be able to split it in half(like the kinesis freestyle 2).Lastly considering the very high price, they should also throw in some extra blank keys. due to the very high price of the keyboard, i give this keyboard 2 stars; but if they fix the bugs in the driver and fix the layout problems on the board then it might be a 5 star keyboard.

Poor Software Implementation
Poor firmware upgrade error handling. Following the setup instructions on the X-bows website, I updated the firmware. A few moments passed and the keyboard became unresponsive, no input, no LEDs. I did the usual ritual of unplugging and plugging, uninstalling/installing, restarting my machine etc. The keyboard was bricked.I don't have time to waste on forums and fiddling with registry settings etc. on something that was fresh out of the box and worked for only 5 minutes. I would recommend you think long and hard before investing your money in this company's products.UPDATE: I did what I said I wasn't going to do and hunted around for a possible solution to fixing the bricked keyboard. After spending an hour or so I was able to resurrect the keyboard. Accordingly, I increased my rating from a 1 to a 3. The keyboard itself is an interesting twist on ergonomic keyboards and shows promise. The build quality is outstanding. However, the firmware upgrade is alpha level software at best and needs to be redesigned with the end user in mind and not what a junior coder thought was a good solution. The consequence of building better, more robust software will be higher ratings.

Keys moved to weird areas, certainly not easy to use
The description states "Utilizing the standard QWERTY arrangement, there is no need to memorize a different layout." Yet the buttons are a different layout. I literally can't even type on this thing for this review, I have my Microsoft Natural keyboard plugged in otherwise I'd be misspelling every word. The keys are an unnatural distance from each other. In between each key is a large space so it requires much more finger stretching and maneuvering to get to keys you'd normally not have to struggle to hit. I type properly so using the homerow, it is nearly incredibly hard to hit the number keys without taking your entire hand off the homerow. I have longer fingers than most and I can't do it so I can't imagine anybody else being able to. The backspace key is on the upper right corner of the keyboard, again way further away than usual so it's totally unnatural to use it. I don't know why they thought this was a good design or beneficial in ANY way, it's actually less ergonomic than a standard keyboard in that regard. The lack of numpad adds to my displeasure, although I knew that going into it. I bought this for gaming purposes because I wanted a keyboard with easy thumb access to more than just spacebar (the Microsoft Natural keyboard has it's left alt key further to the right than usual so I'm able to use alt and spacebar easily with my thumb). I tried the koolertron keyboards which were almost what I wanted, but the keys weren't quite in the right spot for me and it had the same issue as this x-bows one...keys arbitrarily placed in different spots which only make it harder to use and does not benefit the product at all.
