Buy Groundwork Training for your Horse: Develop A Deeper Bond With Your Horse Through A Range Of Exercises And Games 5th Revised edition by Bayley, Lesley (ISBN: 9780715324417) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great book for ground work - Brought for a present good book and they love it, offers a good insight of basic ground work and a must have for beginners to advanced levels Review: Informative & balanced. - Unlike some other training books, this gives an over-view of lots of different approaches. None of them are treated in extensive detail, but there is enough there to try things out & consider if that approach is right for you and your horse. It's also refreshing to find a book that doesn't spend half its words criticising other methods of horse training. I feel a lot better informed about these methods & there's plentry of different things in there to keep ground work interesting.

Good introduction to ground work
I bought this book just before I got my youngster. It’s written well, easy to understand and follow. The first part focuses on the foundations of groundwork and gives some simple exercises. The second part introduces you to some training methodologies and principles. At times I feel that some of the chapters and exercises could have been build on each other a bit more but nevertheless a good book.

Generalistic and vague. Marketing material at best.
Overall this book was not a fantastic buy for me. I needed a training manual which this promised to be and instead this gave me a general overview of several traditional and "new" groundwork philosophies, but minimal strategies in depth. A great piece of marketing material for the various names in the business and I would suspect they all contributed financially to the making of this book. (in my personal opinion). Benefits * Gives an overview of many of the modern names out there and a snapshot of their philisophy and techniques and where you can get hold of them; good introduction to "new wave" for people who have concentrated on the more traditional techniques of lunging, long reining and other classical methods. *Gives the only visual examples I have seen of how to use the Pessoa system. I trawled the net desperately looking for a guide as to whether I am using this properly and this part of the book was very useful to me. If anyone knows where to find more visuals or a video on this please let me know! * Some examples and exercises that can be replicated at home. Drawbacks * Generalistic and vague in its explanations - summarises at best; little "how to". * Does not give any idea of the amount of work you have to put in to get the basics really cemented well into human and horse to build the framework before progressing to some of the advanced level stuff which is illustrated here. Another comment I would make is that there are inconsistencies e.g some of the photos show handlers kitted out in a safety helmet and gloves and then others have someone long reining with no gloves or helmet. As this is for the general public I would suggest that a focus on safety should be paramount whether or not using these items is part of the new age requirements. Gloves at least!!

sympathetic young horse training
I would recomend this book to any breeder and trainer of young horses as the method is amazing without any forcing of the horse to do what is required, but rather the horse seems to understand what is asked and is very willing to the work A remarkable way of training

Not what the title says
Not what I expected, not many actual exercises but more about horsemanship techniques in general. Would get a refund if j could.

This book is beautifully written and photographed. Its so accessible and easy to understand. For beginners or if you are out of practice with ground work and the mind-work that goes with it. ENJOY!

I love that I can flip the pages over and drape over a wire fence. I’d love it to be coated in a water resistant cover to keep it clean and dry. Loads of great ideas to work my horse

What I like about this book is it doesn't just say 'this is the way we do things so this is how you must do it'. Instead, it gives you lots of different ideas from different people on how you can approach a particular problem. TTOUCH and TTEAM is mentioned, as well as Monty Roberts Join Up, Pat Parelli, Clicker Training, Intelligent Horsemanship and a host of others. What this book gives you, is the information you need to find what suits you and your horse the best. I read through this and from knowing my horse's personality and how he responds to things, I chose Clicker Training, and I approached it exactly how it was shown and it worked brilliantly. It engaged my horse's mind and really helped with his entire well being. Ground work is great for bonding with your horse. The book is laid out in clear sections, with lovely big colour pictures on every page with sub captions describing what is happening, as well as a simple yet descriptive blurb on how to approach each situation. I think the main thing to remember is you don't have to try all of these, but you will always have a reference to all of them if you ever want to.

learned a few things from this book. Puts things in simple terms for those who don't know alot about training, which is the stage I am after 9 years. Like how it is pictured with the explaination.
