Good insight fir Beatles fans
Bought for my musical Beatle loving husband. He found it very interesting and gleaned a lot of information he didn’t previously know, although he’s well versed on Beatles history already. A good purchase at a reasonable price.

Fantastic buy. The stories behind the songs added to the value of the song......even after so long. And a catalogue of lyrics. Truly a great purchase.

A lavishly illustrated coffee table book, featuring every self-penned Beatle lyric in big type accompanied by background information, some speculative ( "mays", "coulds" "probablys" abound ),some based on sold fact. Of "Sun King" we are helpfully reminded that Louis XIV of France was called the Sun King, and told that Nancy Mitford had recently published a book about him ( actually, three years earlier ) "and John may have come across it". Yes he may. Or may not. Turner then adds, perhaps in desperation, that "It may also have been a jokey reference to George's song "Here Comes the Sun" Indeed. It may...who knows ? Who cares ? It's only a northern song, after all. Of course there is more to the book than vast amounts of guesswork and trivia. For example, we are told that "She Loves You" was written in The Imperial Hotel, Jesmond and not at The Royal Turk's Head in Newcastle as "had previously been thought". How do we know ? Well, in 1992 it was reported that "local man Bernard Armstrong had drunk with them at the hotel and could remember unloading equipment with them from their van" Good to get that cleared up ! If you need to know how many people named Mustard are on the electoral roll, or that after appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, the group spent four additional nights at the Deauville Hotel on Collins Avenue, then this is the book for you.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law, so the book is no longer in my possession...but I wish it was! As a Beatles fan myself, I came very close to pulling off the wrapping paper and keeping this for myself. Before wrapping it up, I flipped through the book and read the stories behind some of my absolute favorite songs by The Beatles. For example, did you know that "Dear Prudence" was written about Mia Farrow's sister Prudence? Steve Turner's book is full of these interesting little nuggets. This isn't the type of book you're going to sit down and read for hours, but it makes for a wonderful coffee table book that you can pick up and read bits of from time to time. If you're looking to buy a gift for a Beatles fan, look no further.
