Effective Product to Insulate
Does a great job keeping the heat and cold out.

Sometimes you just have to pay for quality
Let's just deal with the elephant in the room first - this thing seems stupid expensive for what it is. I mean, 50 bucks for a circle of fabric with a cheap plastic handle, wth? But I will say this: it works, bigtime, and for a tiny fraction of the cost of getting a chimney repairman to try to replace a leaky damper. The fabric circle is really a super-heavy-duty, all natural, woven sort of felt from, they claim, special sheep with really dense wool. I can't speak to that but I'll admit that I've never seen anything quite like it. Despite its thickness and solidity, though, it was not terribly difficult to trim up with heavy shears. Note: DO NOT attempt to make an exact fit! You want it to be a little big, so it'll squish into the flue and stay there from friction. I also had to cut a perpendicular slit to allow the damper control rod to pass through. This, too, was no big deal. And the result? Not only did all chimney drafts immediately cease, but the family noted a great improvement in allergies! Maybe pollen was blowing down the chimney along with the cold air? Or maybe they're allergic to whatever soot or ash the draft carried with it? Whatever - the cost of this gadget will pay for itself with a few less bottles of allergy meds, to say nothing of the cost of however much heat was vanishing up the flue. You do have to be a bit handy, detail-oriented, and flexible to crawl around upside down in your fireplace. Obviously make sure the fire is long out, and the fireplace is as clean as you can reasonably get it first. You're still going to get a bit dirty but it shouldn't be Dickensian. The results will be worth it.

Expensive for what it is, but does the job
The concept here is simple enough - open the damper and stuff this nice insulated wool to stop the cold winter drafts. The sheep wool feels like great quality and it actually does make a significant difference in reducing the draft, but man $45 for some insulation on a stick is a tough pill to swallow. Unfortunately I couldn't find any alternative that looked comparable in the construction, so I suppose you get what you pay for, and in the grand scheme of things this lets me save money from my heating bill on a monthly basis so it probably pays for itself. Still though I feel like I had to do some mental gymnastics to justify the purchase.

Well-made, natural flue blocker
I was skeptical at first (especially considering the price), but it does do a good job of stopping flue drafts. Our chimney flue diameter is 8" and had to trim the circumference to make it fit. You may have to trim it a few times to make sure it fireplace to get a good snug fit, but DON'T take off too much or it'll end up falling. With the stopper installed (even without the fireplace flue valve being open), it really does a good job of stopping drafts.

Drastically cuts down on the draft
If you have an older home and the flute cover doesn't seal well, then you may find this item as the right choice. For me personally it drastically cut down on the draft a great amount to the point I was no longer feeling any air draft coming from it. I did however buy a size larger then I needed but was able to cut it down to fit perfectly. So if you wanna save on your heating or a/c bill this is a great choice over using the ballon option as you don't need to be filling it up with air from time to time. The difference was immediately noticed.

Missing part
Package came open. Missing the handle. Had to shove it into the flue opening without it. Seems to work decent. Wish I had the handle to shove it past the damper.

Perfect for cold drafts
Great tool! The handle feels a little wimpy, but the wool pad is so thick. It really does help block the cold air from coming in. It is slightly larger than our flu pipe, but it squishes to fit. It seems like it is an awkward fit, but it does the job.

sizing is an issue
Horrible product for us. It does not seal easy as it is hard to lock in with a flute that opens and closes so not right for us. Air still seems to leak out but is better than without but size is not correct so returned one but stuck with one I had to install.

Chimney draft excluder
Bought the 10 inch version, the smaller 8 inch would have been better. The larger size bends sideways in the chimney flue and does not seal properly. It took a lot of adjustment to get it fitted correctly The chain could be a lot remind you it has been fitted

Impeccable

Fantastic product
The Chimney Sheep is a fantastic solution for preventing drafts and heat loss during the colder months. It fits snugly into the chimney, creating an effective barrier against cold air and reducing energy costs. The material is high-quality and designed to last, while the easy-to-use design makes installation and removal a breeze. I appreciate how it also helps keep out dust and debris. Overall, it's a smart investment for anyone looking to improve home insulation and comfort during winter!
