The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream

Got this for my dad who has very sensitive skin, and it works perfectly. Being unscented and hypoallergenic, it doesn’t cause any irritation or itchiness like other brands. It provides even foam coverage, a smooth cooling shave, and feels like a high-quality product all around. Will continue to re-order for him.

My husband loves this shaving cream. He says that it makes for a smooth shave, leaves his face soft and no skin nicks.

First of all, the price might be higher than most shave soaps you see advertised, but it is also probably double the amount of product than those others you might be looking at. So in that respect despite the higher price, you are getting much more for your money. Next, performance, and it does perform well. It creates a soft foam that helps the razor glide effortlessly over your face. I use one of those silicone shave bowls with the ribbed bottom (I recommend these for anyone as they help economize the amount of product needed). All it takes is one shallow dip of a shave brush and you can whip up a nice soft lather in seconds, that has staying power. When applied to the skin there seems to be a slight cooling effect, but this may be entirely subjective. The scent is pretty accurate, and also contains a fresh, almost citrusy element in addition to the sandalwood notes. The scent is present but not overpowering and even after your shave, you will still catch the scent for a couple hours, but very subtle at that. Overall a great product, I have to admit, even though it is now under the umbrella of one of the big guns (Proctor and Gamble). I prefer to get my products from independent sources, not corporate entities like P and G. But to be fair, it does perform and so I have to admit that.

I generally like Art of Shaving products, even though they tend to be over priced. If you are someone who is using your average drugstore shaving cream than you will think this cream is outrageously priced. There are definitely other creams which are priced lower and do just as good a job as this cream. Specifically, the three T's of the wetshaving world come to mind, those are TOBS (Taylor of Old Bond Street), Trumpers, and Truefitt and Hill. However, this is a cream that you can actually find in a lot of local malls because it is carried by stores like Nordstroms, Dillards, and Macys. With the other creams I mentioned you will most likely have to purchase them online. I think Art of Shaving gets a lot of things right with their shaving creams. First they do a very good job with the smell. I have used this scent, sandalwood and the unscented version. I like the sandalwood scent the best, but the lavender is nice for my sensitive skin. I will tell you this, it is not a very masculine scent. So if you don't want to be smelling lavender for the first few hours of your day, then don't use this product. However if you do like the smell of lavender than Art of Shaving nails the scent, as they do with all their creams. Second, I like that Art of Shaving makes an aftershave balm and pre-shave oil with the same scent. However, if you think the shaving cream is over priced, you will certainly think so with the shave oil and the aftershave balm. In my opinion both those products are only average and I am someone who always uses pre-shave oil and an aftershave balm. So with all the caveats, why do I still think this is a good cream? Well, you will get a good shave with the cream and it will last you a long time, making it worth your money if you follow one rule, always apply it with a badger brush. The cream says that it can be used with or without a brush, but to me there is a marked difference in the quality of the shave if you don't use a badger brush. If you do use one, you will get a nice lather, with a pleasant smell, that will give you a close and comfortable shave and the tub will actually last you a long time, 3 or 4 months with daily shaving. However, you must use with a brush. It takes time to learn how to properly use a brush to create a proper lather for wetshaving but it is something worth learning to get a good shave and on the plus side you will use about a fourth of the amount of product that you would use if you just used your fingers to apply it to your face. Overall, this cream is a big step up from what you will find at your average drugstore.

After 4 days my face gets a bit sloppy and in need of a shave but 7 days really makes it ready for a full on cleanout. I went ahead and ordered using prime and as soon as it arrived, put it to the test. A nice mid temp shower without getting too hot or cold and after a 5 minute soak, applied a dab on my two fingers. This was enough to get a full on rub and scrub across my entire hairy face and with a new 5 blade cartridge, got to shaving. It performed as many of the other shaving foams/gels have in the past. Nothing new or out of this world but helped make a shave happen. I do enjoy the smell of the red label. Lavender might be a next buy given the chance. Should last for a few hundred shaves.

Distinctively far above any shaving cream I’ve previously tried. It’s very smooth and leaves little to no residue when easily rinsing off.

Love the shave

Excellent shaving cream when used with the pre shave oil and shaving balm. I've been using this product for 5 years and have not looked back. Every other shaving cream or foam I've used irritated my skin before switching to the Art of Shaving. The Sandalwood also smells great!
