The Godfather Paperback – Deckle Edge, 1 March 2002

I read the book in 2025, having had watched the movie so many times. And yet the book is so captivating to read - just can't put it down. The characters are so well developed, particularly the 2 main protagonists - Don Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone. The plot is kept taut, I would say for most parts of the book (the movie has left out the bits where it slacks). All in all a great book to read.

I had seen the movies a few times and I picked up the book because one of my friend told me the line that one bibliophile often tells another "The book is a lot better". I was bewildered and purchased the e-book to read on my kindle. I did not expect it to be such a well written book. Sure the movie was good. But the movie is good for several other reasons than just the story. I could see the strength of the story through the book. I read it in a few sittings in two days and sometimes I felt hard to lift my eyes from the book.It is a master piece. Though to speak it is a story of the mafia that ruled New York for a period, the book is a lot more. Mario Puzo's powers of observation, his comments on the nature of life made me remember some of the classic Russian novels. I hope to read it again after a few years, sure to see it in another light then.It is one of those books that, I think, is written to be read again in every stage of life

What other word can describe this novel. A masterpiece by all measures. Have read it for years before misplacing my book. Ordered it again to re-re-read it.
