Worked for me.
This worked well for me. Compressing by hand, required per the manual, took about 10 minutes per spring, which was a pain, and I got one installed backwards and had to re-do it, but the compressor worked fine.

Great Set!
Bought these for my son who is mechanic. He's used to the big pneumatic sets used at large garages but needed this for home use. He used this Cal-Van set for his Honda's struts and rear shocks and it was just the ticket. Well made - heavy duty, easy to use, and perfect for portability with a nice case. 'nuff said!

This is a great kit for struts
This is a great kit for struts... Not good for GM coil springs... I was not able to use it due to the fit and safety... If you are going to do coil front coil springs on any gm car do not buy this... But again works verry well on all kinds of struts...

Good sturdy tool, however, I had some issues with it.
This seems to be well built and sturdy, however, I did have issues with it. This isn't my first time using these tools. My main reason for buying is that I don't want to borrow friends tools if I think I will use it often enough. That said, the issues I had: the hooks to hold the spring coils didn't seem to curl over the coils well enough and came off if I wasn't extra, extra careful; the bolt to draw the coil hooks together and compress the spring bottoms out far before the coil has been compressed; I shimed the bolt to gain the compression I would need and noted the bolt has standard threads and even though I grease the threads on this type tool it was a significant effort to tighten. It would be better, sturdier, more compression power with less effort.I am kind of beating up on this tool although that is not my intention. My comments are for future buyers. As I indicated above, the tool is well built with good, sturdy components. As good as the tool is built perhaps the company could review the comments made about their tool. A consideration regarding this tool, I was compressing springs for a big block chevy engine in a Chevelle. I point that out to indicate that I was compressing some pretty heavy duty springs.

Tool Appears to Be Of Good Quality
I purchased this product to have on hand while installing a 6" lift kit on a 2012 Ford F-250 4x4 pickup truck. As it turns out the install procedure had steps that allowed the old springs to be de-installed and the new springs installed without a coil spring compressor. All that said, I have not actually used the tool. I have however used other Cal-Van tools in the past and have always been pleased with their performance.

Excellent value for the DIYer
Excellent value for the DIYer! I purchased this as it was two sets in one, does both struts (mount outside of the spring) and regular springs (used on the inside). Used for strut replacement on a 2004 Passat, did the job with no drama, just follow the instructions and you'll be fine (don't draw up one side more than the other, keep the load equal). One gripe, the thrust washers galled after two struts, but this is not a PRO grade tool. The fact that it comes with a great case to keep it all in, that was the fifth star.

it is best used on light-duty suspension
It gets the job done, and for the price its acceptable. However, it is best used on light-duty suspension, such as my Subaru, as it fits the springs well. It is usable on my Dodge, but just barely, as the thicker, closer spring coils make it a challenge to get the tool in place. The build quality of the kit parts is good as well.Used it on four struts in the past week and still like new.
