Ozobot - Programmable Robot (Crystal White & Titanium Black)

Ozobots are tiny little bundles of fun!
Ozobots are too much fun! I gave a pair to my brother's family last Christmas, and they didn't understand what they were! To get the most out of them, you need to read the web site. These adorable little guys blindly follow a rhick black line on white paper. Simple draw lines, and they will follow. What makes them super cool is that you can change their behaviors with a collection of color codes available on the ozobot site. By including these codes you can tell ozobot to speed up, slow down, change the color of it's light, turn around, spin in a circle, and much more. Check out the printables on the site to download and print a fortune telling game, a race track, and more. There are iPhone apps available but I think creating your own track with the color codes is more fun. Note that the only colors ozobots respond to are black, green, blue and red, and you'll need to use markers to draw your tracks/patterns using broad strokes and clear lines.

Great way to have fun and learn basic concepts of coding!!
So much fun! Used these in a Robotics camp to teach the kids about programming - ages 6-10yrs. Each camper was able to draw code on a pieces of paper to practice. Then I put a big piece of butcher paper on the wall and each student was able to ad two programing codes. Then we put it on the floor to watch. EVERY SINGLE camper was glued to watching it, When there was a "programming error" they all talked about how to fix it. A LOT of fun!!

Disappointed
Gave these to my 11-year-old and 7-year-old for Christmas. The app didn't work on our older iPad (which is to be expected), and the kids were having trouble making them work with the markers. I confidently stepped in to show them how easy they would be to use with the markers (brand-new Sharpies purchased for the occasion) after watching the videos. Nope. My drawn codes worked about half the time, which was really frustrating for the kids.I keep waiting for the website to post more ideas or activities. For something that's being marketed to schools, there are very few activity ideas on the site. Also, the site is hard to navigate. Want to give the creators a copy of Don't Make Me Think in exchange for some more ideas of how to make them work better. For now, they sit in their box.

Not as cool as I thought
Not as cool as I thought. Getting them to act as intended manually (drawing lines and codes on paper, especially kid drawn) is very hard to do correctly. Don't have a tablet so I can't comment on the flashing light programming or the "dancing". Great idea, but so far they seem very limited for $80 robots. I kind of feel I got taken.

Line Lines everywhere there's lines!
I think i like these more than my kids! They got bored after the first day...that first expensive day!!They're really small and quiet and USB charge so no hearing aid batteries are not required. Grab your markers and bring home a ream of paper from work! You'll see what I mean/

Kids were bored easily!
I like this product more than my 13 year old nephew and 7 year old son. I like the educational value, the kids figured this out easily and they liked the app. They used these both on paper and the iPad.They used this product for 1 day after that they didn't have interest in it.

Doesn't work as expected.
I was very excited when I saw the commercial and hope to use it in one of my lessons with the kids I worked with. Only one of the two ozobots worked (black), the white does not do anything. My fellow teacher and I did all the instructions carefully but still nothing. Even the one working did not follow the "commands. " I'm disappointed for I think that this is a great product.
