Delicious!
This is the second bag of coffee I have purchased from Coffee Bean Direct and they get a 100% approval rating from me! The prices really are great, and with the Amazon Prime shipping- the overall price truly can't be beaten. I love french roasted coffee- and this does not disappoint. If you do not like the smokey taste, then simply, do not buy any coffee that has the term "french roast" on the package!I didn't know what to expect from a Papua New Guinean coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a smokey, chocolate-cream taste. If it were a wine, it would be a Pinotage!Coffee Bean Direct roasts their beans fresh to order. When I purchased the first 5-pounder in February ('11) of the Brazilian French Roast, it had a roasting date of a few weeks earlier in January. On this package that I ordered in June, it also had the roasting date of January. So, it appears that Amazon is selling a large shipment they acquired from them months ago- be informed of that possibility.I have seen many people concerned about the five pounds not staying fresh once opened. Whatever you do- DO NOT REFRIGERATE OR FREEZE- that is some sort of urban legend/myth (lol) and actually speeds up the stale taste! This is an easy fix!- Do what all coffee distributors do: store in a vacuum-sealed foil package. How? For the five pound bag, you will need about 10 gallon-sized VACUUM food storage bags (found in supermarket) and basic aluminum foil (also in supermarket.)1)Rip off one sheet of aluminum foil about 12-16 inches long2)Lay foil flat on counter3)Gently pour, roughly, 1/2 pound of coffee beans into the center of the foil sheet4)Fold both of the width-side edges neatly over the center of the beans5)Fold the length-side edges neatly over the top and towards the center (much like sloppily wrapping a rectangular present)6)Place this foil package in the vacuum food storage bag- making sure that longer portion of the foil package is put in the bag parallel to the seal of the bag, which would leave much empty space between the foil package and the top of the bag.7)Seal the bag, then vacuum-seal the bag by using the hand pump (can be purchased with the vacuum bags)8)Do this with the remaining coffee beans (leave the amount of beans in the bottom of the coffee bag that you will be using within the next few days)9)Check each plastic bag, by using the pump again to make sure they are vacuum packed.10) Place each bag neatly and carefully either in a box, or a canvas bag (or some sort of storage to keep light out)11) Store in a room temperature closet (about 60-75 degrees F)- making sure the bags will not be moved around too much or dropped as the vacuum seal could break.12) Check the vacuum seal periodically and re-pump if necessary13) This coffee will stay fresh for months this way!May seem like a bit of work, and adds to the cost with the price of the vacuum food storage bags- but, it's worth it!

Another cup of joe...
Wow! What an amazing deal! Thanks to the incredibly wide scope of Amazon's "Always please the customer!" thinking, I'm subscribing to a monthly delivery of a 5-pound bag of totally awesome fresh Dark Sumatra coffee beans (from Coffee Bean Direct Coffee Roasters). These fresh-roasted beans make an exceptionally terrific, totally smooth, rich and deliciously tasty cup of coffee, some of the very best ever. And the price is just right. With Amazon's flexible coffee bean subscription plan, I get the freshest beans exactly when I want and need them, I don't have to fret about going to the coffee store or market or running out of anything. I just grind my fresh aromatic beans before bed each night and I have absolutely fabulous hot Dark Sumatran coffee the next morning. These fresh beans are so richly aromatic that my [non coffee drinking] partner likes to grind and set-up the coffee at night just so he can enjoy these Dark Sumatra beans in his own fashion.Amazon.com sends me my 5-pound bag of fresh roasted beans promptly each and every month. I can suspend my order or purchase more beans, change my delivery dates and of course, I can always choose from Coffee Bean Direct Coffee Roasters' excellent stock of the very best fresh-roasted coffee beans available from almost anywhere in the world.I once lived in Hawaii's famed Kona coffee district and had my own absolutely fresh, just picked-off-the-tree coffee beans from my own trees, I could roast those fresh, tasty Kona beans myself whenever and however I wanted. This was a totally unique coffee lovers' experience, but Coffee Bean Direct Coffee Roasters' coming straight to my door courtesy of Amazon.com expertise is just as awesome and a lot less messy and time-consuming. I have the worlds' best coffee from the worlds' best retailer every month with absolutely no fuss. Please Amazon.com, find a way to stop by in the mornings, brew and serve some of my deliciously hot Dark Sumatra coffee (don't forget to wash the pot and used cup please!), that would be almost perfection. Oh, and did I mention making fresh, hot scones?Maybe?Thank you Amazon.com, you've changed the way I shop! And it's great!

Very good smell
The review covers only Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. The coffee has very pleasant and rich smell. Just flavors of this coffee can wake me up.However, to the taste of all coffee drinkers in my family (4 people) the acidity of the coffee is too high. I.e., it is too sour and only sweeteners (allulose worked well) can help reducing the sourness. With sweeteners added the taste was great.Though I perfect prefer straight ☕️ with no additives.Still recommend.

Best espresso I had so far!
I really like this coffee for espresso. I recently purchased an espresso machine a few months ago tried using Decaffeinated whole bean but could not get any really good espresso from decaffeinated coffee beans. I switched to regular again even though I really did nu want so I could enjoy good espresso. It improved drastically but not exactly great espresso this whole bean coffee is the best coffee espresso I had so far. It is fruity with notes if chocolate though if you do have the nack for sensing the fruity taste odds are you will not though the cocoa flavor is really there. I gave it four star ms though I had better espresso but since I got rid of my first espresso machine and bought a Solis Barista Perfetta Plus the espresso is not as good as the first one I got and not as cheap price. First espresso machine broke after a week because the pump would not work so I had to return it. Overall in a traditional espresso machine this coffee bean works really well give you have fairly good grinder.
