This is a fantastic product for lady slipper type orchids. It is very small fine bark that resembles potting mix. I wouldn't use it on any other kind of orchid. It retains a lot of moisture and is very loamy. All of my slipper orchids really thrive in this soil.

The best soil for orchids, phaleanopsis, etc. Add bark and peerlite before planting, though. They have very small bark on Amazon which is really great. They also have this soil at ACE if you forget.

I am a new plant owner and I wanted to start with something easy and was familiar with. Pothos was the obvious choice because my grandmother kept they all over the house. My problem is that I am not good with schedules so I didn’t want to take a chance with overwatering. This seemed like a good choice after much research. It’s well draining and you can visually see when it’s dry, all the pieces making up the medium are visible. All 5 of my varieties of pothos love this!

I purchase BLACK GOLD for orchids all the time for ALL my orchid plants. I must have approximately 30 different types of orchid plants and I use this to repot them ALL THE TIME. I really believe my orchids love this soil because they do so well in it and bloom for me every year. The only place that I can purchase this soil is from AMAZON. I just purchased 3 bags for the orchid plants I have at work.

I normally rate Black Gold at the top for houshold soils, but this one misses the mark. Its too dense! It needs more small bark pieces. This will compact quickly. I mixed in a little more small bark and it was perfect. Other than that, its great. It works reallly well for amending cactus and succulent soil that needs a little more loam.

The mix seems just right - free draining, full of nutrients, and a bag will go a long ways. I have completely re-potted several of my orchids, and they are doing quite well.
