Door Closer Keeps Cats Out Of Laundry Room
The photo shows that the Prime-Line Astra KC10HD Safety Spring Door Closer can be mounted on the door case molding (which isn't flat) using the four screws that come with the product. FYI, it is straddling a concave portion of the molding. When the tension was adjusted strong enough to fully close the door the mechanism sort of growls when you open and close the door, I think because the springs are wound up so tightly the surfaces are rubbing together. However, when enough tension was applied it did shut the door very smoothly until it actually latched. Also, I found that I had to use an Allen wrench to hold the output disk in place so I could screw in the arm in the correct hole. The short threaded rod they give you doesn't help much in some cases where it won't fit between the closer and the adjacent wall. All in all I'm very happy with the product.About drilling the holes: When drilling the holes, it helps if you first use a drill that just barley fits inside the four through-hole mounting hole locations in the closer to mark one location and create a "center" point for the smaller bit that will be used for the screw pilot holes. Hold the mechanism in the place you want to mount it and then insert this larger drill bit into one of the top mounting holes. Only drill a slight divot in the surface of the molding to create a center for the smaller bit you'll use next. Don't drill all the way through the molding with this larger bit or you'll screw up big time! Now remove that first larger bit from the drill, blow out the saw dust, and insert a drill with the inner screw shank diameter through the mechanism so the actual pilot hole for the screw can be drilled all the way through the molding with the mechanism in place, that way it will be at the correct angle. I think the bit I used for this was about 3/32 inch. Don't make the screw pilot bit too small or you'll crack your molding when you install the screws. Once this is done, you can install one of the top mounting bolts and tighten the closer up against the molding. Now you can finish drilling the other three larger holes with very little hassle to help guide the smaller pilot drill bit when you drill the remaining three pilot holes.

Simple installation
Installing was fairly simple. I put on the guest room door so it’ll close over when the a/c is on. Only issue is the noise. Why the company doesn’t put some grease or graphite on the springs is mind boggling. I gently took apart by removing bottom screw so the springs are slightly exposed and sprayed with a silicone lubricant. If you do this, make sure you do before installing or you’ll need to take it down. It’s quiet now. Didn’t set to slam shut for safety reasons, but enough to close over. The plugs are a joke. I used extra ones I had from a different product. Wasn’t for the inconvenience of fixing the noise this would be a great product.

Works as listed!
This works as described! It's a bit smaller than I thought but it works fine. Installation was fairly simple. I will note that this screws to the wooden trim around the door, so that trim needs to be attached firmly. This is a better alternative to the spring-loaded hinges because those are not a universal fit. This closer can work on any door as long as the wood trim is suitable for mounting to.

Loud
Hard to tension and the movement is loud. Had to drill holes to inject silicone grease. Now it’s completely silent.I suppose that’s what you get for the price

Keeps the Office Scent Free
My office is ~25' away from two restrooms in the company. I hear everything, and the odor eventually wafts to my door as well. I've asked the two primary culprits to simply close the door and leave the fan running, but that requires too much effort apparently. I've closed my own door, but it always seems that someone will need to see me, or they visit and use my office as a safe refuge until the fog lifts. This week I installed two of these simple door closers, and the problem has been solved. Sure, somebody could somehow wedge the door open, but we've already discovered that closing the door is too hard for them to accomplish, so finding something to keep the door open is way beyond their capabilities. The product was easy to install, each one took less than 10 minutes to install. I mounted them on steel door frames, so I had to first drill 1/8" pilot holes. If you are installing on a wooden door frame you'll need a smaller pilot hole. The one drawback as other reviews pointed out is the slight noise the spring makes as it is compressed and released. The sound is not bad, but it caught everyone's attention when they opened the door. Everyone stopped, looked around, moved the door some more, and tried to discover the source of the new noise, but they could not see the device from the hallway. The commercial doors in the office a quite heavy, but this device has not trouble closing them. I adjusted the closer to close the door a bit slowly and gently, but the amount of force used is adjustable. The price is perfect! I'll never get reimbursed for mounting and installing these in the office, so my payback will be the joy of not having my office smell like poop, or even worse, poop sprayed with Lysol..... Gag!
