I love this superpowered transformer. Now I have Nest-like control over my window/wall air conditioner.
Wonderful device. I got this transformer so that I can connect my 220v window/wall air conditioner in my apartment to the 110v Belkin WeMo Insight automatic switch. I needed to step down the voltage of the A/C to get it to work properly. The power plug of the A/C was also one of those weird 220v plugs. When I initially got my WeMo Insight switch, through some wire trickery I did something dangerous, I plugged the 220v A/C directly into the 110v switch using speaker wire and tried turning the air conditioner on. It did turn on but just barely, it was hardly moving any air and didn't cool down anything. So I got the transformer, which had a built-in power port that supported the plug from the A/C unit, set it to 110v down step, and then plugged the transformer into the WeMo Insight switch, which was connected to my WiFi network. Now with the WeMo app, I can turn the air conditioner on and off remotely from anywhere in the world where I have an internet connection on my phone/tablet, be it WiFi, 3G, 4G, anything. The purpose of the WeMo Insight Switch was to give me the automation capabilities that come with a NEST Smart Thermostat, but the Nest only works with central air/cooling/heating. With the WeMo app and IFTTT (IF This, Then That), which allows me to create custom recipes to get my switch working how I want it, I now have it set up so that my air conditioner will automatically turn on when I reach my own custom-specified radius from my apartment and turn off when I leave that or any other set range, will turn on if the Weather Channel says that the outside temperature exceeds the temperature I set it to turn on at, or any other number of possible recipes that involve all smartphone and tablet devices and stuff like gmail and facebook and everything. I had to get the 5000w version of the transformer to cope with the power-on surge of the air conditioner. If you don't know what this is, when you turn an A/C on, it takes a huge surge of power, typically twice the power of that when the air conditioner is actually running. Kind of like when you turn on a car. So I got the 5000w transformer and it copes and performs with aplomb both with the Low Cool setting on the A/C (which is what I use most of the time) and the High Cool, which uses over twice the power. Also, the WeMo app tells you how much power the device is using and how much that will cost you on your monthly bill, plus how many hours it runs daily, average, etc, and same with power drain. The most expensive part of my electricity bill in the past was the air conditioner, which has brought the electric bill in my medium sized apartment to nearly $500 in the past, but now the app tells me that the A/C should contribute no more than $40-$50 to my total energy bill, bringing it down by nearly $200 monthly. I also at the same time replaced all the bulbs in my apartment with LED's so let's see how much my next energy bill is.If you have an apartment and one of those window/wall air conditioners like me and want to bring energy costs down, I highly suggest doing what I did with the transformer and the Belkin WeMo Insight switch.

Good but big and heavy
So far the step up step down works well. We use it for our coffee machine which is a big industrial one and our toasterIt does make clicking noises and seems to draw a lot of power so be careful about tripping fuses. In our kitchen is ok.It's is very big and so does not look very nice but it's cheaper than buying a new coffee maker.Easy that it has 2 power sockets that fit European and UK plugs.I would have preferred more sockets.

BAD, i would stay away from this
well, i needed it for my European 220V tools.it came, i have been happy, but after opening the box it was...OMGthe input meter is not where it is supposed to beit has a dull on top, and on top of these it does not even comewith the 2 plugs shown in the picture.anyway, the seller will take care of sending UPS over to pick it up.i don't even try this piece, because it seems to be made so poor thati am afraid to burn my house down with such a weak electronic piece plugged in.i am glad the seller pays for the back shipping, because it would be badspend money on my had to spend to return a piece of broken tech.i guess, its just too cheap and poor made.i have ordered now a higher $ one to stay on the safe side.

50% Quality Control
I purchased two of these units for use in a post-Soviet, non-EU, Eastern European country and have found their quality to be servicable after inspection. The primary issue was that although both units were functional, only one was usable out of the box. The other unit was assembled in a slipshod manner that required some servicing by a local electrician to function properly as it automatically set off the breaker when turned on. The only other problem is the unit makes a very audiable elecrical crackling noise when supressing surges, although I admit that may be a feature to let you know it is doing its job properly.Otherwise, it has done an excellent job keeping my console game systems and LED projector running, as well as all of my US kitchen appliances (1000w coffee maker, espresso machine, can opener, blender, etc.) without any problems. So in the end it's a great value and I recommend this unit to anyone as long as they can get a competent electrician to look at it before using it on the local power grid.

Very good product. Terrible handling in transfer
The product I have worked very well. For the use for which I bought, it has worked perfectly and you see him working on regulating the voltage use. However, if I have complaints about the handling that was given during the transfer of United States to Costa Rica. This because the device is a bit heavy and came with a blow on the side that bent the metal base of it and the voltage indicator had been detached from its base. I think that certainly the people in charge of mobilizing the product know the weight and most likely at some point they dropped or did shot, which caused these two faults. However, it was something I could repair without returning the product. Some people say that the connections are very bad and other things internally, but I believe that product designers know the reason for the setting. As I have another system and I have several years of having it, with the same features and has never given me problems.Consider it important that Amazon is really sure what you are buying and make sure the people in charge of packing and moving, know calculate the weight and give the proper handling because these kinds of situations give a bad impression of both the carrier and amazon in this case, creating mistrust in future purchases. I give it five stars for the quality of the product but not the management that was given in the transfer
