Different model number, but same product
In the past this Honda oil filter was always blue. It appears that Honda has either changed manufacturers or has two manufacturers for this same product. The blue one is model #15400-PFB-014. The black one is model #15400-ZZ3-003. I received the black one also. Both have same dimensions and both fit and function perfectly. Maybe in the near future Honda and Amazon can have a discussion to clear up this little mystery.

Wanted a honda filter, bought a honda filter
It's a honda brand oil filter for my outboard. Lot of money for a motor and if something does go wrong it won't be because I saved five dollars changing oil on a high dollar motor.

Black vs Blue filters
I wrote Honda Marine to address the blue vs black filter. Here's their response: Thank you for writing in with your question regarding the oil filter for your BF9.9D6SHSA outboard. Based on the serial number you have provided us, BABJ-*******, you can use either oil filter part number you have provided us. They are made by different manufacturers and the blue filter (15400-PFB-014) which was made by Toyo-Roki has been superseded by the black oil filter (15400-ZZ3-003) made by Denso. If a dealer has either filter in their stock it will work with your unit.
