Husband Loves It
Our hot tub is about 20 feet from the house. It's been sub-zero and snowy lately, and we have to shovel to go check the temperature. So I bought this thing. So far, it's great. It's not accurate, but it is consistent. Our regular hot tub thermometer reads 104. The AVANTEK reads 109. I don't know which is right, but don't really care. My husband is thrilled with this little gift, and has been carrying it around with him, doing his mad scientist experiments. Last night, he found that the sensor window was fogged up, so he brought it indoors, opened it, and kept the battery housing and sensor top immersed in dry white rice all night. This dried it up nicely. (Must remember to buy more rice.) I originally inserted the batteries and replaced the sensor top before I gave it to him, and my hands are not very strong, so it might need to be tightened. He did say that the gasket is feeble and not well-seated. He has a workshop that's bigger than our house, so he'll probably disappear into the cave and create a better gasket system. I'll let y'all know. Claybox, the vendor, has been diligent about follow-up. I haven't contacted them, as it's too soon. The toy value for the last few days has been worth the price. I'm giving it a 5-star, subject to revision.Well, the little screen fogged up again, so we did the rice-drying thing and then he put a wide (came from the grocery and used to hold broccoli) rubber band around the place where the top and bottom seal. That did well for a couple of weeks, but iy's fogged up again. He's off to the workshop to make a seal out of a bicycle tire tube. Love this little thing. We call it R2D2. It's worth the trouble.

WARNING!!! THE FAILURE REVIEWS ARE FOR REAL!!! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM!!! AMAZON SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS ITEM ON THEIR SITE!!!
[updated]If I could give it ZERO stars, I would. This unit was promising at the beginning, although it was initially inaccurate by 5°.Not too hard to compensate for the difference, until it became variable, then 11°, then 22°, then a constant temperature that never changed... which is not the reality.I figured the batteries were dead.I got it out of the water, opened it to replace the batteries, and like many other customers--- found it filled with water, almost to the top.I dried it out, replaced the batteries, and the red LED on top stayed on, when it used to blink.Done, fried.I'm disappointed, it's a cool toy.Too bad it doesn't seal properly. This should be pulled from Amazon, it is a dismal failure.DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.You have been warned!---[original post]So far so good, even though it's only been a couple of days.No leaks like the other comments, hopefully 'not yet'.My only issue right now is the calibration. The temperature is off by EXACTLY 5°, as verified by two other thermometers. As there was no way to adjust the temperature reading, as per the instructions, I've added a label to the display 'DEDUCT 5°'.If it fails, I'll update this review.

but so far it's been GREAT! I can see the temperature of the spa ...
So far, really liking this device a LOT. I hope we don't have the issues others have reported with it leaking and shorting itself out, but so far it's been GREAT! I can see the temperature of the spa from afar and I also like the clock and alarm functions on the head unit.FOLLOWUP COMMENTS: I guess I am one of those that has to report that the display on the sender has become fogged over and unreadable, however it is still accurately reporting to the display unit the correct temperature. Too bad, and others may wish to consider this before purchasing. I decided to give this a shot and didn't listen to others. Lesson learned I guess... :(FOLLOWUP NUMBER TWO: I will give the seller a 5-star rating for customer service, and here's why- They saw my comments and contacted me privately, and without my asking, they refunded my payment in full and told me I do not have to return the unit. As of right now, it still reports correctly to the display unit, so it is still of some use to us, but for how long, who knows? Since they refunded my money I am satisfied and would deal with this seller again.

Horrible waste of money
Piece of junk. I've owned two of these and both failed in the same way, within one year of use. The remote sensor which is supposed to float in the pool or spa fails because the O ring that's supposed to join the top and bottom is a tiny rubber band that is loose and lost its elastic, so the unit fills with WATER, stops transmitting, and RUSTS the components in the battery compartment. I've even tried fresh rubber bands, and taping the unit closed with tight electrical tape, but nothing you do can prevent the fundamental flaw it its design. I can't believe the company is still in business. Horrible waste of money. It gets one star because it worked great for at least 15 minutes, and I now have two remote display units that tells me the temperature indoors (near the workbench and trash can). Don't waste your money.

It works, mostly.
Purchased about 4 months ago. It still kind of works, the display unit doesn't properly display numbers anymore so I have to use my imagination. It floats on the top of the pool and the temperature of that water is different than the temperature of the water at the bottom. I hopped in the pool when it said the water was 22 celsius and the bottom of the pool was most definitely NOT 22 celsius or even really anywhere close to it. Not the thermometer's fault at all - but something to keep in mind when you're using it.It has a blinking red light on the top of the pool unit that my dogs believe to be a spaceship or something. They keep a close eye on it when it's dark and will pull it out of the pool when it gets to the edge. It seems sturdy enough that they haven't damaged it yet doing so.Not sure I'd buy this again, mainly because I would want something that sat lower in the water. It's fine for what it is though.
