Q: what weight capacity can the hardware handle

Well, I'm a big guy ... 5'11'' & 240lbs.. My wife is (Whoa...I almost messed up there!!!). Anyways, I think this bed, once assembled correctly, will easily handle 500lbs. Hope this helps.

It depends on the size of the bed you would like to build, but on average the cost is between $200-$400 for plywood or particle board.

Q: How many sheets of plywood are required for a queen mattress? How many other pieces of wood and what type? $200 to $500 is a wide range.

For a queen size Murphy bed , you will need 4 sheets of 3/4"plywood, 2 sheets of 1/4" plywood , some 1"X2" frame struts and some solid wood. You can also build the entire bed out of plywood if you cut the wood yourself which cost a lot less. If you use the average plywood (not the more expensive ones ) your cost with be around $300-$350.
