Slightly Wider version would help
I have another tool similar to this one but with much longer tines that DOESN'T work nearly as well as this one does. The tines on this tool are very, very sharp and do a great job loosening soil for patching bare spots. And there are many of the aerating discs, too. It really works great. Wet soil does tend to accumulate a little between the discs but - not worth complaining too much about. This tool is 12" wide but it seems like it would really be beneficial to expand the width to 18". I had an area that needed overseeding that was about 10' x 10' and - it took FOREVER to prepare the area for seed.

Piece of crap
I used this and after a few rolls it fell apart where the tines are. The rod with tines is held on the handle by cotter pins . I put it back together and the pins flew right off again and I am right back where I was!! I would advise no one to buy this!!!

Broke after 30 minutes
I received the aerator last night and used it for the first time today. After 30 minutes, the slip pin came off the end and then roller fell apart. Needless to say it is somewhere in my yard! I went to Lowe’s and got some cotter pins and had to fix it on my own. I replaced the other slip pin too while I was at it because it looked ready to fall out too. I recommend replacing the pins on the end of the roller before your first use. After replacing parts, the tool worked great.

Flimsy and won’t last because of singular design flaw.
Pretty flimsy and under designed. The whole stitcher blade apparatus is held together by two tiny, spindly lynch pins that fall out very easily and will definitely get lost. Once out, all the blades and spacers fall off the bar. Why in the world would they drain it with this terrible flaw? It would have been so easy to secure the ends with bolts instead. Very stupid decision.

Perfect for planting grass seed.
This item works perfect for planting grass seed, in florida dirt, don't know about in hard clay. Makes small holes in dirt for seed to go just below surface and protected from sun. Made very well except one problem I had, the cotter pins in the ends that hold the shaft in, are not cotter keys they put safety pins maybe for a rider mower pulling a cart. 1st thing is to remove and replace the safety pins and put real cotter keys in place or some heavy duty wire, the safety pins in grass will pull the pins out and it will disassemble right in front of you. Replace the pins and you will have no trouble.

Poor
Came with a paper clip holding one side. It fell off and the piece is really not constructed well.

Mediocre at Best
Lowes, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply have more functional versions. The whole thing is just too light to make a difference for me. As soon as the spinners hit the dirt I knew....Product: Mediocre

Great for repairing wear areas
I take care of several sports fields and found this tool to be excellent if used as intended. This tool is for “enhancing” your overseeding practices. The small diameter rollers create hundreds of slits for grass seed with very little effort. It also helps to settle in seeds through your dormant canopy. Obviously, this is not for doing entire fields, but as a tool for repairing high traffic areas during the season, it’s outstanding. One of my favorite pieces in the shed. Use a light hand when rolling, and top dress or cover seeds with back of a rake on bare areas.
