Q: Would those survive washer and/or dryer on gentle cycle?

I have not washed those drapes yet but when I do wash them, I would be comfortable putting them in the washing machine on gentle cycle, dry them long enough to get wrinkles out and hang back up to finish drying. Worse that could happen is you might have to pop them back together. I really like my grommets and plan on using them on all curtains in the house.

I don't know what they are for either used the grommets didn't need the plastic things at all sorry I couldn't answer this

I would say yes they were easy to install. I have velour drapes with the grommets and they are just fine. The weight would be on the rod Hope this helps

Q: Can these be removed easily for when is time to wash the curtains?

Yes you could remove them but the material would fray on edges where they were.
