Tomcat Rat Trap (Wooden), 1 Trap

I tried peanut butter as bait and found the rodents (mice and/or rats) had been able to lick off the peanut butter and not fire the trap. With the dog kibble jammed into the metal bait holder, the rat had to gnaw on it and that was the end of the rat.One note - the powerful spring mechanism is less-well-secured to the wood on this brand than on Victor rat traps, so one has to press down hard enough against the wood when setting the trap so that the trap stays intact.

My parents were having a problem with a rat in the house. My Dad had some old Victors traps but they couldn't catch him. So I ordered five of these and had them sent directly to them. My Dad set them out and caught two rats. They haven't had any problems since. Yes, the Victors and TomCat rat and mouse traps look similar but I have used both and the TomCats will catch mice with no bait at all, just putting them against the wall along the path they take. The Victors are hard to set and then they don't catch any mice. Don't know why but I highly recommend TomCat. They work.

I bought two of these because they were cheaper than the reliable brand I normally purchase. One needed to be repaired when they arrived and both needed tobe modified so they could be set. Very poor quality and poor quality control.

Work two times then broke. No I don't trust it.

I did my first trap, and caught up a mother rat in 5 hrs waiting!

I had several old wooden rat traps and I noticed that one of them consistently caught rats ever time I set it. I was looking online for more rat traps and finally decided that I should try to figure out what brand the one that catches them is(Could barely read the lettering). So I was able to determine that it is a Tomcat brand wooden trap. The others will catch smaller rats but this one catches, or kills the big ones. Some of the rats I have found laying next to the trap dead, which is ok with me.

Not all the triggers are functional, I had to bend the trigger to make it work on several of them out of 12. Also, when set, the trigger points straight up. What happened to being parallel to the trap? Some of the rats can strip the trigger clean of bait without tripping the trap.
