2018 Reprint of 1954 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This work is quite rare in the original and expensive even in the later reprint. We reprint the original edition of 1954. Chapters on Hairspring Practices, Jeweling, Repairing Pins, Dial Repairs, Repairing Hollow Center Pinions and much more. Later reprint has slightly different title page but same content. Mr. Fried wrote 14 books, many pamphlets and hundreds of articles on horology, the science of timepieces. He taught and lectured on horology, was an industry consultant and illustrated his own books. He was a consultant for Random House Dictionary and the Merriam Webster Dictionary. He was president of the New York City Horological Society and the New York State Watchmakers Association. He was also vice president of the old Horological Institute of America and was the first American to receive the Silver Medal of the British Horological Institute. For decades, he was the watchmaker whom others consulted on the really challenging cases, a fact he attributed in part to his "tweezer skills." While he received just about every honor imaginable in his field, the one he got last fall meant more than most: A clock tower at the new world headquarters of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute near Cincinnati was dedicated in his honor. Book is good
But didn’t mention much about watch repairers tools and how to use them I hope Amazon can get hold of such a book in future

Woth every penny if only for the superlative illustrations......
There are many, myself included, that will never attempt and or undertake many of the tasks detailed in this book. But please, don't let that put off purchasing it. If you have an intrest in Horology this book will show you how things were done back in the day and, are still in practice, by some, today. There is a treasure trove of knowledge in this book that any budding horologist be he hobbyist, amateur, and or professional will gain much insight from. The tip on clearing a clogged screw plate (page122) so obvious now with book in hand. Though I don't think I'll be whipping up a brew of 'week' sulfuric acid anytime soon! The Watch Repairer's Manual: Second Edition by the same author is another gem, as is Practical Watch Repairing by Donald De Carle. Once again, superlative illustrations to enjoy.

Recommend but not if your new to horology
Great book more in depth then the hobby one I first got

a reprint of an old book
This book is NOT for a watchmaker! It is for industrial watchmaking, with special designed machines, lathes, factory production etc., therefore the book is about all industrial machines and industrial tools, not for a watchmaker in his workshop. And the title is very misleading. Not to mention that is a reprint of an old book, so I'm pretty sure that most of the machines and tools described there are to be found in museums, rather than in a modern watch factory.

The Best Author of His Time.
This is full off the best information from the best teacher of his time. Its one thing to know everything, but it's a completely different talent to write it and explain it so it can be easily understood. Written by a legend amongst his peers. A must have reference that isn't padded out into an encyclopedia.
