Requires adjusting
There is a bolt on one end that screws in or out to adjust to the size of the nut. It is too wide to crack an almond from the side, they have to be cracked longways. If you have a bunch of different sized nuts (like one might during the holidays), you have to adjust the opening every time to get the nutcracker to work. If you adjust is just so, the nut will explode in all directions when cracked. My children think this is really funny and like to do it over and over.I got this nutcracker because my mother-in-law has a problem with hand strength, and I thought she would be able to use this item. It turns out my mother-in-law has no interest in cracking nuts no matter how easy it is to use the machine. My kids love it, but then they don't want to eat the nuts, and getting them to clean up the mess after cracking is more trouble than it's worth. I'm going to buy a regular nutcracker for myself.

Works very well.
Excellent product. Just wish the base was a little larger.

Better Quality
The media could not be loaded. It breaks the walnuts just the way you want them to break. You don't have to put any effort and they are easy to break in half. No cracks, no mess, clean cut. I highly recommend it.

No Nuts
This Nutcracker didn’t seem to want to work properly. The handle seemed to move too much and the force you had to press on was a lot more than the other style I bought.

Screws pulled out of base on first use!
When my wife went to use it on a pecan, the screws holing the nutcracker to the wood pulled out on the board on the very first try. I sawed off a piece of 2" x 4", found 4 screws that were 3 time longer, and mounted the nutcracker the board, and it was up and running. If you aren't handy, stay away from this.
