VICTORIAN ROMANTIC TAROT KIT Paperback – November 21, 2006

I ordered "The Victorian Romantic Tarot KIT", but I received the RUSSIAN version of "The Victorian Romantic Tarot CARDS" only. I will not be returning the deck because it is a beautiful deck, and OOP. (Out Of Print) I have been attempting for some time to acquire the3 English version , and the KIT! I really wanted the book to help with card interpretations. As it is I had to look up the deck on "Magic Realist Press"'s website, to even identify the cards. The deck was un-opened. However when I opened it I was surprised to find the cards out of order, some even upside down. Several of the cards have a flaw that almost looks like a crease or a line 1/3 of the way down. It's not bad, but I noticed it. Obviously this was a printing fault , rather than a fault of the seller. However it IS the sellers fault that they were advertised as the full KIT, not a deck only. And while I had looked at the Russian version before, I did NOT order it. I am not deducting any stars because the deck itself is wonderful. I LOVE everything Karen and Alex make! I highly recommend any and all products by Baba Studio's and Magic Realist Press! I am thrilled to finally own these cards , they will just require a bit of extra effort on my part to learn them, and track down a companion book. (also OOP!) I believe all the extra effort in acquiring and learning this deck will bond me to it deeper and will pay off in spades in the readings!

Firstly, I must say that if I were able to give this deck more than 5 stars, I would have. The deck is stunningly beautiful. I have 32 decks, and I find this deck the most beautiful. this is the second deck which I have, from ths Mahony-Ukolov team. I bought this deck, after I obtained the Bohemian Gothic Tarot, which I would also give 5 stars. This deck(Victorian Romantic) is prettier, because it deals with the brighter side of life. The companion book was enjoyable to read. It gave good information on the meaning of each card. I especially enjoyed the remarks about the thoughts of the people who lived in that era, in relation to the practices and mores of that society. I was able to gain insights as to the lives of the people of the Victorian Era, including their inner thoughts, which are not found in history books. The deck follows the Rider-Smith-Waite tradition, but is not a clone. This deck can be easily used as an oracle tool, or for traditional tarot spreads. Each card of this "speaks" to you, so it is easy to use.

Anyone listing that the item that has "different cover art", is NOT selling this 1st edition. ONLY 1st edition printings are legally to be offered here according to Amazon rules. (Other printings from other years are not are NOT allowed here and are VALUED DIFFERENTLY than this 1st edition.)The 2nd edition needs a different listing since it was printed in 2012. It has different ISBN numbers for both the deck and the book. Also, the 2nd ed. book has 213 pages (NOT 220). The 2nd edition has a number of different cards than the 1st edition, the card stock and the card backs are all different.Also, the Victorian Romantic RUSSIAN also needs its own individual listing entry.The Victorian Romantic RUSSIAN is a different deck issued on a different year, and there is a card difference here to. Also, it is has nothing written using the English language anywhere, only Russian.(NOTE: All editions are worthy of 5 stars. Many collectors own all the different versions since each edition has their own flare.)

Hi Readers!I purchased this deck just a few months ago. I also own the "Tarot of Prague" and "The Baroque Bohemian Cats" tarot decks by the same artists/publishers. All are gloriously beautiful---and follow thetraditional images very closely. It is fun to see them rendered in brightnew interpretations---and stimulates your mind to see the cards in a whole new light.The Tarot of Prague is still my favorite of the three, but it is hard to choose. This deck is easy to connect with--I think the Devil card is the best rendering I have seen in ANY deck, and I LOVE the STAR card---so beautiful. This is a deck designed by very imaginative artists who have a purpose of truth in the symbols, a sense of humor, and an absolute commitment to beauty and spirit. Highly recommended.

This is one of the most beautiful tarot decks I have ever come across. The colors and intensity of the colors are magnificent! On top of that the cards are actually extremely well done symbolically. The Devil card is my favorite - it portrays excess in every common form. The Devil herself is slightly overweight (over indulgence) and leaning forward provocatively. She hold luscious grapes and red roses spill forth to insinuate drunken folly and lust. There is also a black void at the bottom of the card (along with other symbols) to signify the out of control aspect of the excesses depicted on the card. Theonly problem with this deck is it is so beautiful it is hard to get through the reading because you keep wanting to look at the cards!!!!

Blatantly false advertising.This is the book only, not the kit as clearly listed.Shipment refused.First time ordering from hippo books and the last.

The artwork is so beautiful. I have 2 of this deck and the mini deck. I also have the original VR deck and the Russian version. When I get my taxes back I am going to try to track down someone who needs money and will sell me the gold edition. I have some of the bags that Baba Studios makes as well. Magic realist press has great products. They have beautiful work and pay attention to details. I cant say enough good things about thier products. Tina Roberts

Well..Those Magic Realists just continue to delight. I have been working with this deck daily for about two weeks now- since its first arrival on the shores of Maine- and I continue to astonished by the seamless intergration of art with meaning. Both Alex and Karen are brilliant artists and thinkers!!!!I have studied Victorian art for twenty-five years, so perhaps this is the deck for which I have been just waiting to come along. (My sister says I am not allowed to use the word "resonate" anymore-it sounds too trendy)

カードとしては大ぶりで、約８×１３センチぐらい。すべて絵柄つきのカードです。実用というよりは、むしろ観賞用、コレクター用と思われます。絵柄はタイトルどおりのビクトリアン調の風俗が、きれいな色彩で描かれています。　が、残念ながら全体に作りが雑で、原画のクオリティがきれいに処理できているとは思えません。カード挿絵レベルでどうか程度で、印刷でモアレが出ていたり、微ズレがあるものが有るようです、紙質も、上等とは言えないので、過剰な期待はしない方が無難です。　飾って、遠めに見るぶんには、きれいでいいでしょう。P.S.　　上のイメージのような裸婦は、５.６枚で、過激なものはないので、そちらでも、過剰な期待はしない方が無難です。
