Always get the Haynes’ Manual!
I have these for all of my cars. They’re fantastic. The only complaint I have is that this one covers a lot of different model years and bodystyles of the Mini and some processes are very different from the Gen 1 to Gen 2 cars. This means the directions aren’t really global, but more specific and they will have 3-4 common steps, then split between gen 1 and gen 2 steps and the numbering gets all messed up, so it can be confusing if a step is common to all models or specific to one type or another. The info is there, it just takes more effort than normal to decipher for a Haynes’ manual.

DIY must have
Haynes makes a good repair manual. I have one for each vehicle I own. I never pay someone else to do what I can do myself. Generally, the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Everything you need to know about Minis
Love Haynes manuals, think I've bought one for every car I've owned. This one is special though, helping me rebuild a 2003 R50 for my daughter's graduation present since I've never worked on a British/German car before.Pros: Everything is in this manual, torque specs, photos, solid descriptions. Everything is clearly explained and easy for anyone to maintain or repair the specific vehicle.Cons: Not many, some details & photos are a little confusing but easy to figure out once you get to the vehicle itself.Granted, one can search websites or videos for similar information, but to me having a manual is best.

DISAPPOINTING, MILDLY USEFUL
I just received this repair manual. I ordered it because the Bently manual tells you nothing about overhauling the engine and transmission. Two tasks I might want to tackle on my Cooper Works N14 mini. This manual at least deals with the subject of removing and breaking down the major parts. But, as stated by others, the black and white format on newsprint and the crowded layout of the manual, make it unusable. They have gone to great lengths to capture lots of useful photos. Yet, many of those photos are dark/hard to see. On pages 2C-12 and 2C-13, they have a bunch of pictures of damaged bearings. I have two gripes here. The pictures are useless because the black and white format makes them too dark to use. In addition, why have them at all? If my bearings are that screwed up, I'm throwing them out, and fixing the crank. Who cares how they got that way? Something got fubarred. Further, I bought this book because I needed clearance specs to get my engine back into factory spec when overhauling the motor. No clearance specs! They say 'consult an automotive machinist' for specs. Big let down on that. If I'm doing the overhaul, I AM the machinist. There is a lot of useful stuff in the book, but they need to re-edit it, and provide clearance specs and color pictures. So I gave them 3 stars for effort.
