It's a freakin' hardcover(!)
OK, maybe I'm a little too impressed that this auto repair manual is available in hardcover (and at the same price as the paperback.) I was also impressed at the overall build quality of the book itself. It is a solidly bound book that won't fall apart if drops off my workbench. It also has a lot of pages; many, many, many more pages than the cheap Chiltons manual I bought as a teenager for my 78 Rabbit. This service manual also starts off with some background information and overview of the Audi TT. Normally I find this information to be extra fluff that doesn't add any value, but normally I'm using service manuals on a Honda Civic or a Ford Econoline,.. and they are just boring vehicles. The background info on the TT was rather interesting and I'm glad it was included in this manual.I can't speak to the technical aspects yet, as I haven't done much since buying the book. So far I have only performed an oil change and replaced a couple light bulbs. Could I have done those without the manual? Yes; but the manual actually helped with a few little details.Cons:(1) The book includes a chart with engine oil specs for different years and models. For the 2001 model it states 'no specification provided' or something similar. Yet, my original glove box owners manual DOES include specs for the oil grade. This isn't an error, just an oversight/omission. It is obviously a very minor concern, but it does show me that perhaps the book isn't always 100% complete or infallible. (I haven't performed enough maintenance yet to notice anything else.)(2) The price. I paid about $90 which seems like a lot to a cheap old bastard like me. Oh well. I wasn't expecting anything about the TT to be exactly cheap.Overall, I would give this Bentley Audi TT Service Manual 4 1/2 stars.

This thing was a life saver!
I would consider this book a requirement if you plan to do your own work on your TT MK1. Most of the instructions are very clear and easy to read. Very detailed also.We ended up buying this due to the throw-out bearing on the slave cylinder dying and not finding much information online. Once we read through the process I was very glad we didn't try to do the job without it. Being a German car a lot of the tolerances and torques were very specific. It also told us things I would not have guessed that may have ended up costing a lot more money such as what type of break/clutch fluid to use. It also uses a very specific power steering fluid. We ended up just replacing the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate while we had the transmission off. Replacing the clutch on this car is not your typical clutch job, especially if you have a quattro, but the book made it doable.I am sure this will continue to provide valuable information as it has all the maintenance schedules in detail and how to do them. Overall I estimate that this probably saved me at least a couple grand in shop labor costs. It is totally worth the cost, especially if you have a big job on your hands.

Audi TT manual. Expensive but worth it.
This manual is quite expensive but contains tons of information. From specifications to repair instructions, it has everything TT.

Good Book.
Very nice hard bound book.It has a lot of photos, but it's still not as good as a real shop manual. It leaves a lot out. But, it's still worth the money.Use it, along with Google searches of Audi Videos and you should be able to solve most Audi problems.Which can be very costly. My Audi TT, 2002, runs fantastic; but it has multiple electrical and computer problems that crop up every day. I'm an electrical engineer and a past Jaguar V-12 mechanic. Even I get frustrated with the lack of reliability of VW products. I didn't have near the problems with my Audi A4 as I've had with the TT. Yet, with Quatro the TT can run rings around most any car on the road, even most corvettes.

If you are considering the book vs. the software version - GET THE BOOK!
What you'd expect from a Bentley service manual - fairly comprehensive. If you are debating the book vs. the "e-version" - GO WITH THE BOOK. The Bentley software is AWFUL. Their copy protection mechanism *NEVER* worked right, and is absolutely abysmal - leading me, the user who PURCHASED the software, holding the bag. I had to call the support line many times and get new 'keys' - after which, finally they told me I could no longer do this. They told me to try it on another laptop - which I did, and had the same issues. Tried it on a desktop - same issues. They kept insisting I was changing my hardware, when this was DEFINITELY not the case. It would work once or twice, then complain about license keys being invalid. So, book version GOOD - software version BAD.

Perfect
this was just what I needed at a very fair price, hence my title.Having recently purchased a used 2001 TT, I did not have many of the intitial manuals, etc that explain the functionality of the car. I found this manual on Amazon.com for about $30 less than I'd seen it elsewhere and ordered it. I was expecting a used or second rate copy but I was delighted to receive a brand new copy in perfect condition. The book itself is very heavy on electrical diagnostics. It takes up a huge part of it so if you are more interested in the hardware (engine, drive train, etc) other editions may offer a little more. You won't know without comparing them so I suggest trying to find a copy at your local public library first to look at before you purchase. Because I've used Bentley manuals many times, I know their quality to be consistently at or above Hanes or Chilton and I would choose nothing less for a TT.

Much, much better than I expected
The image doesn't illustrate how thick this manual is. I expected it to be about the same as a Haynes manual but it is about three times the thickness. It is about as comprehensive as it could be and should enable any TT Mk1 owner with the right tools and some mechanical aptitude to, service, maintain and fault find on their vehicle. Well worth the price in my opinion.Delivery was quick and it arrived well packed. It might be helpful to mention that the description doesn't mention coverage of TT's with engine code BAM. Mine is a BAM 225 engine and I've yet to find any difference between this engine and the BEA which is covered by this manual.I also have a DVD style manual but this is far better.Very happy with my purchase.

There are manuals which pretend they are service manuals and there are real Service Manuals. This is the 'Must-Have' real McCoy
As the character David Bowman, in the film 2001 remarked, "My God it's full of stars!", The same is true of this very extensive manual. I'm very, very impressed with this, yes its not inexpensive. but the detail, photography and descriptions are simply stunning. I'd highly recommend this to any TT owner of the years and models covered, whether or not you do your own maintenance, as it puts into perspective the superb engineering that's gone into this machine and gives you genuine insight into how difficult a job might be.Even if this sits on your bookshelf, unsullied by oily hands, it's still a great tomb of reference to which you will not be disappointed.

Nearly Everything You Need to Know
Bought the Haynes Manual, absolute waste of time, they used to be good... This however has all the info that you need. Torque settings, special tool references and a lot of detail. Electrical/Electronic section somewhat lacking, however this is a complex area. That for some reason you cannot find online. Well worth the somewhat high price. But it will pay for itself, if you want to do the works yourself. Also a great accompaniment for a classic vehicle...

'Audi' do? Very nicely, thanks.
Paid for itself in no time at all. I love my little red racer, but it's impossible to find anything under the bonnet or anywhere else for that matter. A squealing stater motor was fixed with minimum expenditure, the manual didn't say how to fix it but it did show how to get at it! A garage would have simply replaced it and charged a fortune. No brainer.

Essential for the TT mechanic
Essential book for the home mechanic. Absolutely invaluable. Covers every aspect of the Audi TT but eh wiring diagrams are hard to follow although I eventually began to understand them. With the help of this manual I have managed to strip the car, carry out a complete suspension rebuild, fit new brakes and seriously lighten the car for track use.
