don't waste your money.
terrible reception. incredibly poor quality. I didn't expect much for the low price but thought it might work. It doesn't pick up any radio stations to speak off. Bands bleed over one another so you hear station from one band on several others.

Hai Tong # GH-858 Dynamo AM-FM SW band radio
Hello, Having acquired this radio in a special promotion offer late last week, I was anxious to try it out to see how sensitive it is on all of it's bands. I have listed my findings below:AM Broadcast Band: Fair sensitivity throughout the range. A local station completely blanked out the last 1/4 of the scale, drowning out any other stations, reminiscent of a crystal radio!Perhaps there's a IN34A diode lurking in it's circut - hi!Tuning throughout the first 3/4 of it's range proved to be very dissapointing. Only fair sensitivity at best. I couldn't pickup the local news station (KYW in Philadelphia, 1060 on the AM dial)at my house 35 miles away from the transmitter site. Very dissapointing.FM Broadcast: Here is where the little radio did a respectable job. I was able to tune in all local stations with some distortion in the audio (probably needs a discriminator adjustment) and some distant ones with the miniscule telescopic antenna extended. Reception was best on some of the distant stations with the volume turned all the way up. Turning up the volume up on any local station created much distortion in the audio.Shortwave Bands: I had hoped to use this radio for casual SW listening. My expectations weren't very high, but true to form, this little jewel of a radio dissapointed me. It wouldn't receive any SW station when I tried it day or night. That's right. You heard me say NOTHING. This may be in part due to it's very small (6" or so) built in telescopic antenna, but probably due to poor quality control at the factory. How did it pass QC? I question if it was ever aligned for the shortwave bands after it was produced. I'll probabl;y hookup a 75' wire to it's built in antenna to see if that helps and if it doesn't; a good realignment may help. It seems as if it wants to hear something on the lower bands. I get a little audio, but no RF detection. If a alignem,nt won't do it then it most likely has a bad component(s) inside.Flashlight: Seems to work pretty good for a low powered single LED lamp. It won't light up your driveway, but in a pinch, it'll illuminate your door knob so you can insert a key in it.Dynamo/Generator: It's supposed to be rated at 3V@400ma. That's 3 volts at almost half a amp. It does work in charging the included nicad battery pack, but I've been unable to measure it's current output. Like I said, almost half a amp? Regardless, it does the job. Period.Synopisys: I'd be much happier using my Collins 32V-2 transmitter and mated to a 75-A4 receiver in time of need. The little dynamo radio is OK if you plan on listening to a FM station about 20 miles away and need an occasional light for groping in the dark. I wouldn't recomend it to a local "Emmcomm" unit to save life and property. I digress. If you bought one, or received it in a promotion. Good Luck, if you plan on using it in a real emergency, you're going to need it. It's better than nothing.Best Regards, Joe Cro N3IBX

pure garbage
biggest piece of junk I have ever wasted money on! Fell apart immediately - instructions totally worthless; I simply threw it in the trash where it belongs!

Don't bother
Bought the radio at an end of season sale to use while camping. I made sure it was packed with me for a week long outing....only to find that the tuning nob didn't work right out of the box. Don't waste your money.

For the price you pay, Its worth it. Even a few stations makes it worth it! I give the little radio a thumbs up.
