Update to prior review
Still think it's great especially for the money. Recap: second knife but only due to my personal intentional abuse of the first. I will say I'm slightly disappointed that there a number of nicks to the cutting edge on this one. Everyone complained it wasn't sharp. I'm guessing they listened and ground the edge after paint rather than prior to paint.... Thanks for messing that up amazon idiots!!!! The new one has an edge free from paint so people think it's sharp. Problem is the powder coat is now not there to protect it. But now idiots can feel better when they run their thumb on it and see that it's sharp without the paint getting in the way. So congratulations. Anyway, still giving it 5 starts all around. It's identical to my first one. Haven't even used it yet. A quick pass of a file will sort out the blade issues. Still can't beat it for the price. The simplistic design actually makes it better for debarking than the fancy drawlnifes. Again, don't get it thinking it's 100% ready for fine wood working out of the box because it's not. However, right out of the box, it better than the fancy expensive knives for debarking trees..... If you spent some time with a stone, I have zero doubt you could use it for fine wood working. But keep in mind, if the thought even crossed your mind to get fine wood working tools off of Amazon, I promise you that you do not possess the ability needed to surpass what this tool will provide. It is what it is and it is an amazing deal for what it is. Good luck all!!

Excellent tool
I bought this as a Christmas present for my brother. We are Anishinaabe & use this tool to make stick ball sticks, bows, ect. He had been looking for a better one for years. He loves how big it is, & how sturdy the handles are. He said it “cuts like a dream.” 10/10 recommend.

Works good but dulls quick
Would be better with harder steel. Have to sharpen often due to soft blade steel.

Used for bark removal, performed very well
This is the first and only draw knife I've ever used and I would recommend it. It worked pretty well out of the box and I spent a couple of hours removing bark from walnut and cherry logs. I read other reviews saying that it performed better after the purchaser's sharpened the blade so I did with my Shapeton 1500 grit stone. Less than ten minutes later it was performing even better. I've since used it for about four more hours including some hacking of small branches (not really advisable) but it did not suffer any chipping or deformation. It doesn't even need to be resharpened yet. It's got a good weight and balance to it, the handles are ergonomic and haven't loosened at all, and the only thing preventing five stars is that it could have been a bit sharper out of the box.

Cedar Eater!!!!
I cleaned the cedars to the pretty stuff in about 6 minutes per 10 foot log. It takes some technique (never used one before) but it slides through like butter. Don’t use a grinder to sharpen. Use a vixen file or a sharpening stone.

Dependable
Worked as advertised.

Soft metal that bends. Not hardened steel.
Not proper tool steel. Soft unusable crap.
