Works great - unless you have a Chromebook, lol.
Not knocking any stars, because I should have researched this better. I have a Chromebook for my work and needed something to scan documents, especially while on the go. This doesn't work with Chrome, unfortunately. I do have an old Windows-based Surface Pro that I can use with it, but it's a pain to go back and forth between laptops. As far as how it works, it does well. Scans quickly and cleanly, and everything is easy to organize.

Go for it! Simple set up and scans well.
This was a very easy set up. Less than three minutes. I used it very easily. Pages went through smoothly. Picture quality is great. Very compact and light. Go for it.

Epson ES-50 Portable Scanner
I have scanned almost 2000 photos so far and have at least that to go.All things considered, I could not ask for a better scanner. It was inexpensive, portable, plenty fast and just works. Note: outside of scanning the text on the back of pictures and stitching it to the front, I have not done any text scanning. The stitching option is wonderful. The only 3 issues that I have (I tried to explain my work arounds) and I consider them minor are :1. You sometimes have to reorient dark photos or use a light background slightly larger than the photo or the scanner will crop out the dark parts. This is understandable since the rollers are black.2. Very thin high gloss photos have to have constant pressure in and out (manual by pushing and pulling the photo) or the rollers will slip on the picture. Thicker, high gloss photos don't do this.3. The app needs some work as it appears to be outdated. Won't do some of the features on larger files as it will crash and close. Work around save the file as is and do what you need to do thru a Microsoft or whatever photo editing app. This only happens on really large pictures.I did not have any problems with gray scale or color scanning at the max 1200BPI (once I figured out the app).

Mac Compatible, doesn't appear to scan straight
I purchased this because I desperately needed a new printer to print something, and the only one available was a wireless printers/scanner that *only* lets you scan through their app if you have an account - really sending up red flags for me if one were scanning sensitive documents! So I splurged and got this as well. Is it small and portable? Yes. Did it work easily with my macbook pro? Also yes.My main problem is nothing scans it straight. It's great if you're wanted to make sure you have copies of mail or receipts (I suggest tapping to an 8.5x11 regular sheet of paper), but if you want an aligned document without a small black line on the top left edge of the paper? Not your device. Yes you can crop, but it never quite looks right.Anyway. It's a decent little device and does what I need for record keeping! Just not perfect with the alignment. One other note: I scanned a document I had printed that I needed to sign, and wanted a copy of said signature on this document. The whole thing is just...not the greatest quality? Looks kind of dated. Can't really explain it. Really picked up the ink details which I guess is good, but visually looked low quality.Buy if: You want something easy that gives you a bunch of options to upload to computer, onedrive, email, etc. Also great for record keeping that doesn't really need perfection at the end of the day. Also allows for cropping and adjustments in the software.Don't buy if: You desire straight, 8.5x11 documents. She doesn't play that way!

Best bang for your buck - IT WORKS
I couldn't believe how easy it was to set this thing up. It worked the first time I tried using it. This thing is fast, too! Scan quality was adequate for my needs- It's a document scanner, not a photo scanner. For a hundred bucks and saving me a trip to Kinko's, this machine is well worth it! I used a Mac with a USB to USB C adapter. Spending $13 on two adapters instead of $150 for the USB-C scanner made more sense to me. Doesn't take up a ton of space which is a very nice perk. I highly recommend buying this scanner.

Zero functionality on Windows 11 for arm64
In the reviews from other countries, you will find a review from Viktor H. who reports that this scanner has Windows 11, Mac, and Linux support including for ARM processors and Raspberry Pi. While it may work for non-Windows arm64-based computers (linux, mac), it has no support on Windows 11 for ARM. Currently as of Mar 2025, there is no standalone flatbed scanner, Epson or otherwise, that works on Windows 11 for ARM, which is a stunning fail. When you install the Windows 11 drivers and plug in this scanner, the computer makes the typical device detected noise, but never makes the scanner initialization noises. Because the drivers don't work, you can't use the scanner with VueScan, either. Scanner is effectively a paperweight. I'm assigning one star because it does work on Windows 11 for x86-64.

Great portable scanner!
So far I have been liking this scanner! Software that comes with it is great, plus the scanner moves pretty fast. It's only one page at a time and does not do double sided, but the speed of the software and intake make up for this. Image quality is pretty great in color and in black and white documents.I had to make some minor changes to the default settings. For starters, the base resolution (200 DPI) is pretty low and makes smaller text harder to read, so I bumped it up to 300 and documents are looking much better now. You may also need to turn down the brightness for some documents, especially photos. The scanner has a very bright light, which is great for black and white documents but can cause issues for color documents.Overall really liking this product so far, and was just what I needed for my workflow! Saves the space of keeping my hunky printer / scanner around.
